October 2011 was an amazing month of action. So much has happened!
Here are highlights:

Oct 15, 2011 :: Global Revolution Day

"On October 15, tens of thousands of demonstrators staged rallies in
900 cities around the world, including Auckland, Sydney, Hong Kong,
Taipei, Tokyo, São Paulo, Paris, Madrid, Berlin, Hamburg, Leipzig, and
many other cities. In Frankfurt, 5,000 people protested at the
European Central Bank and in Zurich, Switzerland's financial hub,
protesters carried banners reading "We won't bail you out yet again"
and "We are the 99 percent." Protests were largely peaceful, however a
protest in Rome that drew thousands turned violent when "a few
thousand thugs from all over Italy, and possibly from all over Europe"
caused extensive damage. Thousands of Occupy Wall Street protesters
gathered in Times Square in New York City and rallied for several
hours. Several hundred protesters were arrested across the U.S.,
mostly for refusing to obey police orders to leave public areas. In
Chicago there were 175 arrests, about 100 arrests in Arizona (53 in
Tucson, 46 in Phoenix), and more than 70 in New York City, including
at least 40 in Times Square. About 150 people camped out by city hall
in Minneapolis." -- Wikipedia

Rome reaches the most violent the Occupy movement has become. Romans
overturn vehicles and light them on fire. Violence in London as
well. In New York City the police are on horseback as 1000s of
occupants rally in Times Square. Occupy Spain, called "Take The
Square" drew over 40,000 occupants.

JP Morgan Chase launches massive television advertising campaign
entitled "Change" featuring motion graphics by the top special effects
company in New York.

Here is one account from Occupy Denver: "After initially backing off,
Denver riot police move in to clear demonstrators from Broadway Ave.
The police line the street and surround the south and east ends of
Civic Center park. After clearing the street and making arrests,
police then move in on the people on the public sidewalk and make an
announcement that they are part of an unlawful assembly and should
move west through the park. Protesters stand their ground and attempt
to protect a small tent that was temporarily erected to hand out food
and water and serve as a first aid station. One protester offers food
to police as a peace offering as they begin arrests, he thrusts it
into their faces after falling back as an officer grabs his hands. The
police push closer and begin physically pushing people with batons and
spraying people with pepper spray."

An Occupy Austin march was held to the JPMorgan Chase Tower and to the
Texas State Capitol. Over 1000 people participated in the march. Some
protesters closed their accounts at Chase Bank. Chase Bank allowed
customers who could document that they had Chase accounts into the
building singularly to close their accounts.

Occupy Radio Austin (occupyradioaustin.org) starts broadcasting.

Jesse Venture, former pro-wrestler and former governor of Minnesota,
creates a scene on MSNBC by yelling at hosts about truth in politics.

Texas Governor Rick Perry's presidential campaign raises $17 million
dollars more than any other Republican candidate.

In Chicago, police arrested about 175 protesters in an operation to
clear the city’s Grant Park of demonstrators camping out in protest
against corporate greed.


Oct 17, 2011

The new Libyan government issues a press release directed at the New
York City police department, urging them to show restraint in dealing
with the Occupants.

The Occupation spreads to online virtual world Second Life.

Rome again erupts in violence: “As the tear gas and petrol bombs fly
from one ancient city to the next, the social sustainability of our
present political economic arrangement is once again being thrown into
question. The outbreak of violence in Rome — like in London and Athens
before — is a symptom of a much deeper disease: the crisis of global
financial capitalism and the profound legitimation crisis of our
national representative democracies.”

The Guardian publishes a report about how Gov. Rick Perry doctored
environmental reports to remove signs of climate change.

The global population officially tops 7 million; double the global
population of the 1970s.

Willie Nelson releases a 99% solidarity statement on Youtube.

Occupy Oakland raided by police during the night.

The International Performance Arts Association makes a grand
solidarity statement with the Occupy Movement.

Harvard professor and creator of Creative Commons, Lawrence Lessig
speaks at Occupy Wall Street.

The NYPD were questioned over brutality claims from Occupants.


Oct 21, 2011

Occupy Melbourne (Australia) gets messy. Police dragged surrounding
protesters out of the crowd one by one.

In New York, police arrested about 30 protesters including veteran
civil rights activist Cornel West during a demonstration by the Occupy
Wall Street movement.


Oct 22, 2011

16th Annual National Day of Protest to Stop Police Brutality in many
cities, including Austin where the march was joined by an Anti-Death
Penalty march.

Tea Party sends out a letter to small business owners suggesting they
stop hiring new employees.

10 Occupants arrested in Cleveland.

Iranian women gather in front of the Swiss Embassy in Tehran to show
their support of anti-Wall Street demonstrators in the United States.

Seattle Cops confiscate and destroy over 140 tents From Occupy Seattle
protesters.

Michael Moore, on his book tour, begins pitching a national labor
stand in Flint, Michigan.

A documentary premiers about the criminality of the financial crisis,
called "Inside Job" and narrated by Matt Damon.

Philosopher Slavoj Zizek speaks at Occupy Wall Street.

130 demonstrators are arrested at Occupy Chicago.

5 Occupants arrested in Ft. Worth protest.


Oct 24, 2011

Early Sunday morning, protesters and nurses defended the first aid
station against Chicago police by surrounding it. No arrests were
made.

Celebrity, Naomi Wolf makes regular talk show appearances detailing
her arrest at the Occupation. She repeated points out that she had
broken no laws.

In Melbourne, protesters were being subdued with tasers and other
shock weapons.

Occupy Museums movement flash mobs art museums in New York City.

"In the early morning hours of October 25, police cleared and closed
an Occupy Oakland encampment in Frank Ogawa Park in Oakland,
California. The raid on the encampment was described as "violent and
chaotic at times," and resulted in over 102 arrests but there were no
injuries. A street march that afternoon protesting the closure
culminated in a confrontation between police and protesters, who
sought to re-establish the Ogawa Plaza encampment. A group within the
protesters threw stones, bottles and paint at officers, and the police
fired tear gas into the crowds. During this confrontation, protester
Scott Olsen, a former Marine and Iraq War veteran, suffered a skull
fracture allegedly caused by a tear-gas projectile or smoke canister

Oct 27, 2011

Several cities such as Cleveland and Detroit win minor legal battles,
extending curfews and gaining permits to continue the Occupation.

Wall Street firms are found to be planting protesters within the
movement.


Oct 28, 2011

The Interfaith communities release a solidarity statement with the
Occupy movement.

The hacker group, Anonymous releases personal details on 100s of
individuals including known provocateurs and police accused of
brutality.

Oakland's Mayor says she didn't know about the eviction of Oakland's
protesters and encourages state employees to attend the Occupy march.

About 50 people were arrested during Occupy San Diego protest and 30
were arrested in Tennessee protests.

The City of Austin declared in a memo that new restrictions had been
approved and would begin being enforced. These included a prohibition
of sleeping on the mezzanine, exhibiting unattended signs, and the
operation of food tables during certain hours.

Global "Robin Hood" March, called for by Adbusters, demands a tax on
global money exchange to benefit the poorest humans.

Regular coverage of the Occupation on cable television shows like the
Cobert Show, Daily Show and Politically Incorrect.

Occupy Austin takes a stand at City Hall to defend their food table
from being confiscated by police. 40 people are arrested and the
Occupation is evicted from City Hall.

Occupy Denver gets hit hard again, with tear gas: “In the most violent
Saturday in more than a month of Occupy Denver demonstrations and
marches, Denver police fired mace and pepper balls at a crowd of
protesters in Civic Center today and arrested 20 people. Just before 6
p.m., with ambulances waiting and police cruisers covering whole
blocks around the park, officers donned gas masks and used megaphones
to warn protesters the remaining tents were illegal. Wielding long
batons, a few dozen officers pushed into the park and formed a circle
around the tents. More officers were able to move in after several
rounds of pepper spray and one round of pepper balls were fired.”

Pro-democracy protesters marched from Tahrir square in Egypt to the
U.S. Embassy in support of Occupy Oakland.

An Occupation protester breaks into the floor of the Congressional
Deficit Super Committee in DC.

5 progressive members of congress start calling themselves "Occupy
Congress" and declare that they stand with the 99%.

Occupy London starts a major controversy by occupying St. Paul's
Cathedral, many of the priests support and many do not.

videos of police brutality from their online service.

"On November 2, protesters in Oakland, California shut down the Port
of Oakland, the fifth busiest port in the nation. Police estimated
that about 3,000 demonstrators were gathered at the port and 4,500 had
marched across the city, however a member of the Occupy movement was
quoted by the BBC as estimating as many as 30,000 may have taken

Winter begins. Many Occupations including New York, DC and Chicago
bundle up as the snow begin.

Occupy Oakland raided again by police. "Around one in the morning
they brought out the riot police. At one point, they pushed the crowd
out of the park, killed the floodlights, and surrounded us with
officers armed with beanbag guns, rubber bullets, tear gas canisters,
and nightsticks."

pies. Occupy Austin launches Occupy Apps, providing mobile phone
programs for occupants.

Major legal victory in Ohio repealing anti-labor legislation created
by Ohio's governor. Several Labor groups release pro-occupy posters.

Occupy Worcester (Mass) Occupies a home foreclosure auction.

High School students seize City Hall in Chile's capital. Lots of
violence.

Two members of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) who
are covered from head to toe in green and blue bodypaint, as they hold

Student protests and some police clashes in London.

UCLA graduate student Cheryl Deutsch is arrested by Los Angeles Police
Department officers after she and 10 other student protesters sat in
circle in middle of the Westwood and Wilshire boulevard intersection
as part of a protest of bank practices and rising fees at public
universities.
