Hope everyone's Independence Day was wonderful!!

Barnett Center:

Casey weeded the raised flower beds and half of the flower beds on the hill
The kids harvested and weeded the vegetable beds and we watered last night
This morning I watered, weeded, put away most of the containers beside the shed and put together the garden cart.

To Do:

The upper part of the garden needs to be mowed and weeded this week.   (Tim, if Day Report can help with some of this, that would be great.)

The flower beds, walk paths and butterfly garden are full of grass and it needs to be pulled as soon as possible.
We have lots of donated cabbage and broccoli that needs to be planted, as well as donated stonecrop, lambsear, geranium and other groundcover which we will plant on the hill to retain soil and discourage weeds.  Those are all set out and ready for planting.  Please plant EARLY or LATE in the day and WATER them in very well because of the heat.

We may need to resort to weed killer on the walking paths...

We still need to organize and inventory the shed.

Marshall Greenhouse

To Do

We have around 100 tomato plants ready to be taken out and dispersed either throught the Fresh Market or giveaway.

We also have about 50 Pepper plants that need to be repotted and will be ready for market.

There are literally hundreds of Basil plants ready for repotting and market
I would like to start a few trays of lavender if anyone knows how to start plants from the one that is in there.

We need to establish a daily watering schedule.  Please let me know what you can do.

Fresh Market/ Open Air Market

We have about 10 broccoli heads ready for harvest, 20 Basil plants are ready, cabbage heads, red potatoes and about 25 or more tomato plants and pepper plants for sale this week.

We also have dried lavender and mint to sell and plenty of oregano that could be harvested and dried for sale.

We need:

labels with the HCG logo and plant description printed out and applied to pots on Wednesday night

Someone to take the plants to Huntingtons kitchen Thursday, to EMO on Friday and to Heritage Village on Friday for sale

Minton Street Children's Peace garden:

Watermelons donated by Day Report were planted by the kids.  These need to be watered daily in the early morning or evening.

Marcum Terrace

Monica said that the gardens were doing well, I am still waited to hear from HHA on the pine straw mulch for all three HHA sites

Northcott Court and Carter G.

Residents are watering and weeding pretty well at both sites.  The bushes could be trimmed at Northcott Ct and the weeds need to be pulled around the landscaping hedges at both sites.

Minton Street Senior Lot

We left a lot of donated veggies to add to their garden.  Mr Thomas had requested more veggies since they had some more room to plant.  Eve and I staked up all of the tomatoes and I planted a few eggplant there.

Jungle Lot on Minton Street

Nikul - could you send an update to all of us on your progress, please?

Maudella Taylor Lot

It looks fantastic.  Stephanie - Could you send us a short update on the kids' progress and upcoming needs for that lot?

Great job everyone while I was out of town.  Everything was taken care of so well and I am so excited to be a part of such a great team of passionate folks like yourselves!!!

I will be starting my daily work at the Barnett Center this week, but will be back and forth between there and Charleston to bring supplies over.  I do not have text-ability right now and can only check emails once per day.  My blackberry is messed up and my computer is broken.  I am working on both, but if you need me, you can call Casey at 304-690-2437 until further notice.  Thanks for understanding.

Blessings,
