Hello Everyone!
In case you have not heard, Igot the job that I had been hoping for at WVSU and will be working out of the Barnett Center. I am in training this week in Kanawha City and will be back on Thursday evening.
We will still be having our 10am meeting at Barnett Center on Wednesday. Eve and Alex will lead the meeting
Updates:
We have planted Carter G. Woodson, Marcum Terrace and most of Northcott Court.
Volunteer needs:
We need to work on the Minton Street kids Peace lot and ANYONE who is interested can go on out and start pulling out weeds at your own convenience. Just throw the weeds in the piles at the back of the lot. We will have to get the big weeds out before we can till it.
We have the upcoming AD Lewis kids science day with WVSU on Thursday May 27th from 3-5pm. We need volunteers to help with set up, managing the kids and tear down.
- Eve and Alex, we need to come up with some flyers and dates for upcoming interactions so that we can pass that out to interested kids.
-Sara - please send Alex and Eve a digital file of the survey so that we can give that to people that day, too.
The Maudella Taylor lot - 1437 11th Avenue needs to be mowed, tilled/plowed and weeded. If someone has a truck to bring over a lawnmower and tiller and could help with this, it would be greatly appreciated. Again, that could be at the convenience of the volunteer. (Steph - could you or Martin mow it and weed eat it?)
The Minton Street Senior garden needs to be hoed and weeded between rows
Angela Kargul is watching the Marshall greenhouse this week in my absence, thank you
The Barnett Center gardens need to be watered, especially the plants in containers and greenhouse behind the shed. We also need to fill the last bed with dirt and go ahead and get the rest of the summer veggies from both greenhouses planted. We also need to weed and mow the upper lot at barnett, be careful not to mow down the potatoes.
There are
dozens of flats of flowers at my house ready to be planted both for HCG and for the Huntington Area Revitalization Coalition projects. We need definite help with those ASAP - we could really use the support of Master Gardeners and garden club members to get all of these in the ground. Please contact me at
seedso...@yahoo.com , Will Holland at
holl...@marshall.edu, or Eve Marcum-Atkinson at
emarc...@gmail.com if you are interested in planting and beautifying Huntington.
We have upcoming Junior Master Gardener Day camp dates in June, TBA
Thank you again for all of your support!
Blessings,
Jennifer Williams
