Hi guys,
I'll be releasing the CE Geolocation plugin this week; I've got a demo site running on Heroku:

Please feel free to check it out and play around. Let me know if you see any problems.

This is just a bare CE install (from edge) with the plugin added (no customizations). Obviously, most people would choose to customize the way the plugin refers to 'Places' (for example, you might call it 'Bars', or 'Zoos', or whatever).

Hope this give you all an idea of how useful this plugin can be. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Bruno

This will be released as a commercial plugin (like Ce-Facebooker and Ce-iPhone).
Thanks!

Hi Bruno,

did you get some kind of inspiration from our social network Kirigo? :-)

Hey Luca,
No, that's funny, I didn't even know about Kirigo. Actually, most of the code for this plugin was extracted from my own TennisMetro.com.

Thanks!
Bruno

since we both had the same kind of idea, and for sure we are not the only ones, this proves to me that geolocation is a cool topic for the future!

The idea behind Kirigo is the following: you are normally part of a social network because of a common interest you share with others, or you are in Facebook because you want to be in touch with ex-classmates, or you follow people in Twitter...in Kirigo we want to follow a particolar area (region, town, block...even a street) and follow everything that is going on in that part of the world, simply by zooming in the map

That's why we call Kirigo a local social network...but it's at the same time global since you can always move inside the map and see what is going on on the other side of the world

We are still in early beta, but spread the news!

Congratulation for the new plugin

Luca

Right on for adding Doe Library at Cal to your locations list in the
demo site. Many a tear shed there in the pre-RoR days... ;) haha

Heh; I used to take naps there in the reading library before my morning physics classes (and before my afternoon ultimate practices in the glade)

Nice,
I did same thing in http://www.borracho.ru/bplaces (unfortunately the
site is in Russian only)
Also, I'd implemented geotags for users and registred users can find
other users that are in specified distance from them. If it's
interesting, I made a guest account - login: ce_guest pass: guest.
