Hi,
Has anybody indexed the CommunityEngine (CE) user profile pages
successfully in Google? After almost a year Google hasn't yet indexed
those pages of my users' "About Me" details. I noticed that CE Blogs
on my website has been indexed but not the Profile pages for
individual users.

Can somebody please help me how to do that? Is it a configuration
setting I need to change for that page in CE?

I think that will significantly improve the SEO of my website. I
thought that's a useful information for anybody adopting CE.

Thanks,
sSs

Yes, Google is indexing our profile pages. A couple of suggestions:

1. Make sure your user profiles are public
2. Check your sitemap.xml contains user profiles and submit it to
Google

Also, do you use Googles Webmaster tools? They can be very useful for
debugging SEO problems.

Hope that helps!

Hmmm, my profiles are not public. By public you mean anyone visiting
my website can see those profiles and they do NOT have to create their
own profile and log in, right?

Yeah, I use Google Webmaster tools.

Thanks Barry,

That is your problem then. If your user profiles are private then they
are hidden from non community members. This includes the Google web
crawler!

Otherwise you would have private profiles appearing in Google searches
- not a good thing...

Yup it's my problem :)

I'm thinking of making profiles partially public though. Barry, did
you notice significant SEO
improvement of your website due to having more content public for
Google to index?
Does Google direct greater traffic to your website because of your
existing profiles?

Sorry, I missed your question...

Yes, indexing of Profiles made a huge difference. They are well marked
up with tags and micro-formats (thanks Bruno) and they are
automatically added to sitemap.xml so Google loves them.

In our case it was 12,000 additional pages, so that helps too! ;-)

Cheers,
