Community Workshop? What's Happening???

Sigh... Relying on KAUST: Nothing...
so, my new slogan is:
2011: NO MORE WAITING
All the KAUST paperwork and budget has been submitted long ago. None
of the "Self Directed Groups" have received any funding. The Photo
Group DOES have a meeting room in ECC1 / ISland Oasis and some
furniture and LCD display.
All the paperwork copies etc , if you care to read them, are here:
http://kcomm.wikispaces.com/CommunityWorkShop
So, it's up to US to make anything happen. I hope some of you who are
interested will band together to start a few things in the main areas.
We once thought these were:
a. - Woodworking b. - Metalworking c. - Electricity / Electronics
learning, experimentation, repair d. – Personal Computer Building,
upgrade and repair e. - Model Making
So, please email me if you would like to do something in one of these
areas NOW. Just tell me briefly:
-- the general area
-- ideas for first projects / activities / things to learn about
-- would you lead some?? follow some??
to: te...@terryking.us
And I will get people in each area together soon to Start Something...

-----( OK: I'll start: )-----
c. - Electricity / Electronics learning, experimentation, repair
I will lead a introductory hands-on workshop on Microcomputers,
starting right after WEP (Probably about, um.. Tuesday February 1 at
6PM-8PM)..
This will be based on the ARDUINO microcomputers:

Arduino is an open-source electronics prototyping platform based on
flexible, easy-to-use hardware and software. It's intended for
artists, designers, hobbyists, and anyone interested in creating
interactive objects or environments.
See: arduino.cc
About the Workshop:
- Max of about 5 people (That's all I have materials for right now)
- bring your own computer / laptop (PC or MAC) Or borrow one, take
your work home to your desktop later?
- No experience expected. Some electricity / electronics background
helpful, but not necessary. If you are an Artist or Designer who would
like to add electronics / control to a project, you are welcome. NOT
just for Computer Nerds Like Me...
- We will do work in workshop each week for ?? 4 to 6 weeks. You will
borrow and take home the microcomputer and parts, can work at home /
anywhere. If you want to continue with this, we will do group buy of
Arduinos and parts (typically $50 total). I have good suppliers in
China...
- There will be online learning materials. I hope you will critique
them and collaborate!
- There will, of course, be the fundamental requirement of: Blinking
Lights!
To sign up, ask questions, just email te...@terryking.us
