Good day all! I am forwarding on an opportunity for students you may know with interests in this area. The deadline to apply is November 4, 2025.
Michael is open to questions.
Hello Hannah,
My name is Michael Smith, and I am the manager of the Imaging Studios at the Getty Center in Los Angeles, California. Next year we are offering graduate internships, I am contacting you to pass along this offer to any students you think would be interested.
If you are not the right person to contact, could you please pass along this information or let me know if there is someone else, I should contact.
The Getty Digital Center Imaging Studios department is responsible for the photography and technical imaging of the Getty Center Museum’s objects to provide images and computational data sets for publication, exhibition, documentation, scholarship, creative
outputs, and conservation.
We are seeking a graduate intern with a background in conservation imaging science, computer science, or archaeology who is interested and experienced in the implementation of 3D imaging in a museum environment, creating high- resolution, scientifically accurate
3D models (and data sets), and working alongside a talented imaging team at a leading cultural heritage organization. The intern will learn current photogrammetry and 3D imaging processes and work with a team to research and implement emerging technologies.
Projects will include developing workflows on a custom photogrammetry rig and scripting automations for multiple 3D processes. This is a great opportunity to learn 3D imaging and its application to promote, document, and preserve a museum’s collections.
Internships are open to students of all nationalities. Individuals from groups underrepresented across the fields of art history, conservation, and museums are encouraged to apply.
Applicants must be students currently enrolled in a graduate program (Master of Arts (M.A.), Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), graduate conservation certificate, or their equivalents for international applicants) in a field relevant to the internship(s) for which
they are applying.
or
Individuals who have completed a relevant graduate degree (Master of Arts (M.A.), Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), graduate conservation certificate, or their equivalents for international applicants) on or after January 1, 2023, with postgraduate activities in
their field, paid or unpaid.
Graduate Internships are offered in the four programs of the J. Paul Getty Trust—the Getty Museum, the Getty Conservation Institute, the Getty Research Institute, and the Getty Foundation—and in Getty Publications and Getty Digital. Placements are typically
available in areas such as curatorial, education, conservation, research, publications, web and new media, public programs, digital projects, and grantmaking.
Please review the list of internship opportunities and host departments participating in 2026–2027. Using the online application, you must select two positions in order of preference.
Applicants are required to submit a complete online Graduate Internship application form by 5:00p.m. Pacific Time on November 4, 2024. Materials received after the deadline will result in an incomplete application. We cannot accept applications hand-delivered
to the Getty Center or those sent by e-mail or fax.
