3D Preservation Town Hall Highlights (and one action item)

Hey folks,

 

Wonderful meeting, everyone. The agenda and shared notes can be found here. We clearly needed way more time for the amount of discussion that took place. We talked about current projects, funding opportunities, useful resources for the community, as well as spending some time introducing ourselves to each other since we had so many new folks join the conversation (welcome again!). 

 

There was agreement that further discussion needed regarding priority areas for next steps. We began to discuss the following areas (in an unordered list):

• Metadata schema development 
• Shared infrastructure development (e.g., shared repositories, metadata aggregators)
• Common platforms / viewers - development or modification
• Expanding research / recommendations regarding rights (internationally)
• Ethics
• Working with software companies (e.g., facilitate embedded metadata)
• File format consolidation

 

We would like you all to think about where this group and others should be putting in the most effort to advance 3D preservation. Please rank the potential activities using this Menti poll by September 9th. If you would like to look over the breakout group comments from the Town Hall, they can be viewed here.

 

By popular demand, we will have another town hall meeting this fall to continue the conversation. A date/time poll will be sent out to the list along with the ranking results next week.
