Hello everyone,
The 3D Metadata toolkit team has been working to plan out the development of a toolkit built around the metadata chapter of the CS3DP book. There has been confusion expressed around how to apply the fields listed in the chapter. Those more familiar with metadata can parse through the information, but there are plenty of readers who produce 3D data, but don’t have experience managing it beyond its creation. In response to this, we began to meet and discuss how we could provide easy-to-understand guidance regarding the selection of relevant metadata fields.
As part of this work, the group has begun compiling a list of tools being used to capture, edit, publish, and preserve 3D data, along with the metadata these tools produce. We are interested in 3 main questions: What metadata is automatically captured and produced by existing tools, how easily is that metadata edited, and how interoperable is that metadata with other tools used in the life cycle of 3D data.
Hello everyone,
I have been made aware of new members joining the group after my initial email. As a result, I am sending out a follow-up email with more context The 3D Metadata toolkit team has been working to plan out the development of a toolkit built around the metadata chapter of the CS3DP book. The chapter uses a "good, better, best" structure that focuses on allowing the reader to determine which fields they need at their scale of work. However, there has been confusion expressed around how to apply the fields listed in the chapter. Those more familiar with metadata can parse through the information presented, but there are plenty of readers who produce 3D data, but don’t have experience managing metadata beyond what is associated with its creation. In response to this, we began to meet and discuss how we could provide easy-to-understand guidance regarding the selection of relevant metadata fields.
