Hello all,
Thanks to everyone for their work and suggestions
on all of this – it looks like the May 10 event is coming together
beautifully!
Please find attached a mockup for the postcard. We
decided that getting text to fit onto a business card was, well, impossible.
Perhaps something to think about for the future could be a wallet size card with
a list of contacts for resources – when we launch this campaign in earnest.
In terms of this quickly produced first step,
Lucas and I thought it would be best to pull quotations from relevant documents
and then give info on how to find out more. Drafting a new set of "know your
rights" involves rather more legal-type work than we can do so quickly, and we
are very wary of giving people incorrect information. We hope you will all agree
that this approach is effective. Lucas and I view it as just one tiny start in a
much larger project.
The same goes for the attached image – it will be
something like this one – this is just a mockup. We want it to be the
inauguration of a much larger series of art pieces, postcards, projects, art
shows, performance nights, etc. And with the many visual artists, curators,
writers, and musicians in our group, all that is to come will exponentially
exceed our humble offering.
In terms of the actual image we're sending to you,
we thought in terms of something that looked interesting but was
"non-representative" – insofar as it was not a picture of a cop, or a
representation of violence, etc. Any of this type of imaging seemed like it
could be too confusing for people to understand, and would require a larger
group discussion of CRP members at a later time. We hope that the "Q:" signalled
something 'queer', but also the idea of 'question and answer'.
I know it's late already, but if it is at all
possible, please provide any feedback you have on the text and/or image by noon
tomorrow – so we can get the whole thing off to the printer on time.
Farewell for now,
Carmen
