Hey all,
Hope everyone is coping with slushworld alright! Hope everyone's pumped about the meeting tomorrow. It will be at 7 PM at the PRIDE CENTRE (9540 111 Ave). We have a space on the main floor, but we are unsure if the bathrooms count as fully accessible. One of the bathrooms has a step in it. We are continuing to search for an available, affordable, and fully accessible space!
Also, I have an update: the Police Commission guy phoned me today and reported that EPS is going to do a formal investigation under the Professional Standards Branch. This investigation will follow the same process that would have occurred had Shannon launched her own complaint. The police will do an investigation, and if they find some sort of wrongdoing on the part of the officer or EPS itself, they will then have a disciplinary hearing. The hearing will be public. After the hearing, the hearing officer will decide on what, if any, disciplinary sanctions should be imposed. This is verbatim what EPS told me - but I hope that we can all think about whether this 'satisfies' us on the police accountability front - and if not, what our next steps/next asks should be.
In the meantime, I sketched out an agenda for tomorrow. Please e-mail me or the list if you have additions/suggestions - or we can discuss tomorrow!
