Thanks everyone for the excellent feedback regarding picking a venue to
get together for drinks and oodles of conversation. Based on this
feedback I called a venue today and this should work out well.
As such, the official Saturday evening gathering will be at:
Gordon Biersch Restaurant
33 East San Fernando Street
San Jose, CA 95113
phone: 408-294-6785
fax: 408-294-4052

Will will meet in the bar from 7pm onwards.
Make sure to bring your Community Leadership Summit badge (which you
will be given at the event). I am currently negotiating a 10% discount
for all attendees on food and drinks purchased there when you show your
badge. :-)
Details of the event are on

as well as http://www.communityleadershipsummit.com/schedule/
Thanks everyone!

Regardless of the venue, I'll be at the office in Santa Clara and
staying near there, and can offer ride from anywhere near there into
town and back.
That seems to be about a mile away from the venue. Do you know of a good
place a little closer and better for walking?
Using community technology (yelp.com), here are options within 4 blocks
of the convention center and listed as "good for groups":
If I limit it to $$, the list becomes manageable. I vote for Original
Joe's (for historical sentiment) or Thep Thai (which has outdoor
seating), but will follow the will of the crowd.

However, don't forget, First Street _is_ downtown San Jose's VTA Light
Rail corridor.[1] The Light Rail tram is a very practical way of
getting from the convention area to points along/near its route. Single
ride fare is currently $1.75 for adults.
[1] Santa Clara County's VTA (Valley Transit Authority) system has
light-rail several corridors, including the north-south one along First
Street through downtown San Jose. On weekends, the Light Rail service
runs on a fairly frequent schedule until about 10:30 PM. "Silicon
Valley" is spread out all around the south end of San Francisco Bay.

I adore German food and would gladly show up there--but I'm not sure my
travel plans will bring me to San Jose early enough. I sure hope so,
though.
