Hi, Community Inclusion and Natural Areas Action Teams,

Our first planting party is just a little over two weeks away – and we would love to have you participate with the team!

Neighborhood Roots Planting Party

Sunday, Nov. 13 – 2 to 4 pm

SE Ryan Street Neighborhood

Our goal for this event is to involve as many neighbors as possible, bringing folks together to celebrate the connections between trees, neighbors, and the wider community of life.

At our meeting earlier this month, team members volunteered for the following tasks:

October

·         Annette – Contact the utilities to mark lines for electrical, gas, water, communications for each front yard. DONE!

·         Dave & Annette – Meet with individual residents to determine their tree location and to prep the spot by watering the ground and covering it with a layer of cardboard and mulch; residents to keep the area moist prior to planting. DONE! (Thanks to Aaron for helping to make contact with neighbors.)

·         Annette – Create quarter-page flyers to invite all neighbors to the Planting Party.

Thursday, Nov. 3

·         All team members who are available in mid-to-late afternoon – Distribute flyers to neighbors. (Annette to coordinate.)

Friday, Nov. 4

·         Aleita – Provide truck to pick up trees from Sevenoaks Native Nursery in Albany, with help from Jim and Cliff. (Dave to coordinate.)

·         Aleita, Jim, and Cliff – Deliver trees to Molly’s house.

Prior to Nov. 13

·         Molly – Purchase bags of compost and mulch. (Molly to arrange with Annette to pay with Coalition credit card by phone.)

·         Johannah & Annette – Design small yard signs for posting next to newly planted trees.

·         Aleita & Annette – Plan refreshments.

Nov. 13 - 1 pm

·         Aleita – Bring canopy, table(s), refreshments to location on SE Ryan Street, as the gathering place.

·         Molly + Volunteer – Deliver trees, compost, mulch to each planting site.

·         Jim – Bring camera; take photos, starting with set-up.

·         Everyone! – Bring a shovel if you have one, and help with set-up, as needed.

Nov. 13 – 2 pm

·         Annette – Welcome & introductions

·         Dave & Molly – Demonstrate proper tree planting

·         Team members & neighbors – Organize into groups to plant trees

·         Everyone – Celebrate!

Whether or not your name is listed above, please let me know by Tuesday, Nov. 1:

1.      If you can help distribute flyer invitations on Nov. 3, and/or

2.      If you can help at the Planting Party.

Thanks!

Annette

I live within the traditional homeland of the Ampinefu Band of Kalapuya.  Following the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855 (Kalapuya …Treaty), Kalapuya people were forcibly removed to reservations at either Grand Ronde or Siletz. Today, the Kalapuya live on tribal lands or tribal-ceded lands throughout the region. Many Kalapuya are active members of the sovereign nations of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde or the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians. Kalapuya culture is alive.
