I've been trying and trying for the last month or so to correct a
location marker. Every time I move and save the marker it reverts to
it's old location by the next day.

The part I find odd is that it's a business address that's marked
correctly in the business listing. I've already claimed and verified
the business in Google Places. I corrected the location there and it
was accepted and displays just fine. So as long as someone looks us
up by business they'll get the correct location. If they look us up
by street address however, they're given a bogus location and the
business doesn't show up as being at that address (because the marker
is in the wrong spot.)

What I don't get is why it keeps reverting to what is obviously a
wrong location, when the business at the address and with the correct
position is already on file?

The business listing is here -
http://maps.google.com/maps/place?hl=en&georestrict=input_srcid%3Ab60182195dbe9e5a
The street listing is found searching google maps with - 1077 west
cherry street, milan, tn 38358

We use google maps in most of our event listings, so it's becoming
increasingly impractical while a location error like this exists.
We've already had three people comment on the location being a bit
confusing.

Long story short, how do I go about fixing this?

We are having a similar problem, but for our church. Claimed our
listing, amplified it, corrected the existing information (website
shown was for a different church), moved the marker to its proper
location and have continued to do so, but it's like the darn thing is
cemented to the ground! :-/

Am also trying to learn how to change the white silhouetted icon that
was somehow added -- not by us -- because it strongly suggests (a) we
are on the East side of a busy roadway when we are actually on the
West side, and (b) that a school crosswalk is available when there is
none and further, it would be extremely dangerous for children to
attempt crossing this hilly, blind, fast-travelled roadway.

Please post back if you get a resolution to this marker problem.
Anyone reading who knows if there is an action we can take other than
(i) moving the marker, and (ii) posting a "Report a problem". Have
done both, but no results yet.

Seriously, nobody has any ideas?

Does anyone from google ever even bother to check what's going on with
their POS system?

Is it really so much to ask that when a business listing is claimed,
the street address marker be claimed with it?

Seriously, what good is a map if you have to look up the business
specifically instead of being able to look up the street address of
the business? I just spent half an hour trying to explain to a
business rep., that's supposed to be making a guest appearance
tonight, how the google maps address marker is so far off that you
can't even see the place from where it is, and how to ACTUALLY get to
the location.

This is starting to impact our business. New members and prospective
members can't find us when they try. Services have to call because
we're not where the map said. We even had one delivery so far that
just gave up and went back, we're arguing with the company who is
insisting that we gave them a bad address because the google map shows
the location wrong.

Numerous corrections have been submitted and ignored (more likely
deleted.) While we might not be able to legally force google to stop
showing the street address marker, it won't take much time in court at
all to be awarded damages for lost business as long as it continues to
send customers to the wrong location.

We are up to six weeks of this, with more and more problems every
day. Despite our good faith efforts to correct this, google has
consistently ignored us, made themselves unreachable, and even this
forum has been of NO help whatsoever. At the rate this is progressing
we may not have any choice but to pursue legal means just to stay in
business.

Thanks google, you've reminded us why the other search companies are
still more competition than you can handle.

Hi Rage & BLACKJACK,
@Rage: I can very well understand your frustration. However, I'm able
to see the same location while searching by business name as well as
the street name. Also, the street view matches the listing's image
provided by you. Can you please elaborate the issue?

Search by Business Listing:

http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&georestrict=input_srcid:b60182195dbe9e5a&ie=UTF8&view=map&cid=15726539092245137590&q=American+Legion+Cunningham-McCoy+Post+118&ved=0CB0QpQY&ei=BtD8S5mDAcWUkAXcy625Bw&hq=American+Legion+Cunningham-McCoy+Post+118&hnear=&ll=35.929405,-88.763223&spn=0.007636,0.006051&z=17&iwloc=A

Search by Street Listing:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=1077+West+Cherry+Street+Milan,+TN+38358&sll=35.929379,-88.76303&sspn=0.007428,0.006051&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=1077+W+Cherry+St,+Milan,+Gibson,+Tennessee+38358&ll=35.929466,-88.763319&spn=0.007645,0.006051&z=17

It would indeed be helpful if you can provide us with the co-
ordinates of the place where the marker should be ideally and where
it's currently displayed (as observed by you). You can do this by
Right Clicking near the location, then selecting 'Whats Here'.

@BLACKJACK: Can you please provide the link to your listing so that
we may investigate?

@MMG: Thanks for the reply. It is indeed displaying in the correct
position finally. You'll excuse me if I don't jump up and down for
joy yet though. I just moved it to it's correct location again last
night, the location it is currently displaying. However I've done
this many times and it's never lasted longer than a day or two before
it reverts to its original location.

I'd like to hope that it will stay put for a change. Honestly though
I have my doubts, it still shows that there are "unverified edits" and
the link to view those edits doesn't appear to work. Only time will
tell if it will stay.

I would still like to know why the street address isn't attached to
the business though. Updating one should update the other. Claiming
the business should prevent people from messing with the street
address. Without this it's really rather stupid to even bother with
google places as the only reliable way to look anything up would be to
look up the business itself and hope it's been claimed and fixed since
looking street addresses are so unreliable...

Are there any plans in the works to fix this obvious flaw?

Thanks for letting us know, Rage :-) Please post back if you still
face the issue.

Also, while I don't have an answer for your other question, I do
believe this would be better addressed at the Google Maps forum here:
