Hi to the Map Maker team,
I was searching for previous discussions regarding issues on 'Edit
route associations' but found no relevant topics.
For the past several months I have been seeing (and denying) a lot of
edits on 'multiple road sections', which on many instances a single
edit may involve/affect several roads that go around in different
directions within an area. I am deeply concerned that new users who do
these edits misinterpret "route associations" (or simply "route") as
"driving directions", thus when published, the name of the "route" is
rendered as well. Or even worse, the original name of a road is
removed (and replaced with a funny phrase).
Here's one example:
"Route from San Juan to Paraiso Memorial Park, Ampid San Mateo Rizal"
http://www.google.com/mapmaker?hl=en&q=Route+from+San+Juan+to+Paraiso+Memorial+Park,+Ampid+San+Mateo+Rizal&gw=39&ll=14.657997,121.0853&spn=0.102136,0.178871&z=13&vpid=1291608488658&iwloc=0_0&fid=3717644385371985609:12337753489718087005
See this in Satellite view (shows how the route name is rendered):
http://www.google.com/mapmaker?hl=en&fll=14.63501,121.087961&fr=0.000208,0.000215&mpp=0.577789&gw=39&ll=14.635644,121.088439&spn=0.003192,0.00559&t=h&z=18&iwloc=0_0&fid=3717642521359190145:13072462179312521673
I'm unable to find out who made the approval to this edit, and now I
can't modify or revert the whole route because it is too long (can't
even find its limits). Finding and removing the route, and retaining
the original names of the roads involved would be a daunting task. I
know there are other cases out there that have been published
similarly. It's just horrible.
If there would be a way to change or rephrase the link name "Edit
route associations" to something that will not mislead users (say, it
doesn't mean a "driving direction"), I'd be happy. This is a very good
tool and it helps me a lot with my editing, however if it is used the
wrong way, it can be disastrous, sort of.
Thanks a lot,
Leonel
