Warm wishes, everyone. Hope you've had a chance to get outside and enjoy the sun today.
Sorry for not sending this out earlier. Even though it's wintertime and there's fewer bodies in the shop, things seem busier on the back end this season.
Thanks for your patience as we get our winter schedule figured out.
Speaking of winter schedules, the shop hours are about to change. Starting next week, we will no longer be open on Tuesdays. We will, however, be open for members only on Thursday evenings. Anyone who's earned a bike in the past 365 days is a member. For more information about our new schedule or what it means to be a member, go to
www.communitycycles.org.
And for those of you interested in our Mechanics 101 class, there are still slots available in the next session, which starts on Wednesday, the 4th of November. Register online to reserve your spot. Space is limited for this class, and it will likely fill up. You won't likely find a better bike mechanic class for the price.
We're
THIS CLOSE to having the registration for the
Winter Cycling Workshop up and running. We'll keep you posted as it is available. It's going to be an awesome workshop. There is still some time to get in your suggestions for what we should cover. If there's something you'd like to know about riding a bike in the wintertime, in the snow and ice, or in the rain, now's your chance to ask and have it answered. Email
jo...@communitycycles.org with questions both about the workshop, and for us to include in the workshop.
As always, you can earn hours towards your bike at most of these this. If you're interested, please email me asap and we'll go over details.
Thanks much!
josh.
Your Hand Drawn Bicycles Needed.
I'm working on an art project for the shop that requires as many different hand drawn bicycles as possible. They don't have to be exacy, or even good drawings. In fact, the less you know about bikes, the better in this case. If you're interested in helping, I've got some more details which aren't inclduded here. Seriously, I'm not looking for Picasso. Email me if you're interested. jo...@communitycycles.org
Katie's out of Town, help in the shop needed.
Our shop manager Katie is taking a much deserved vacation! We're working on making her
absence as seamless as possible, but we can't do it without your help.
We still need some help tomorrow, Saturday the 31st, and on
Sunday the 1st. If you're interested and available for a 2-3 hour block
on one of these days, please get in touch with Rich ASAP so we can go
over what you'll be doing. rich

Help Needed With Flyer Distribution, THIS WEEKEND
We'd
like to get a group of folks together who can help us distribute flyers
when we have events, or when we launch a new program. We've got a list
of about 75 places that have a public/community bulletin board where we
can post flyers. If you know of any places that allow flyers to go up,
or if you're interested in helping to print, pass out, or post flyers
for Community Cycles events and programs, please let me know. You can
earn hours doing this, but we need to work out your hours in advance.
We have our open house coming up on Thursday, and we wanted to get these flyers out much earlier. If you're interested in helping THIS WEEKEND, get the word out about our open house, please email
jo...@communitycycles.org to find out how you can help.
Volunteer Orientation, Tuesday, November 17, 6-7 PM
Come
learn how we can use you above and beyond working in the shop and the
events on this list. We're looking for folks who are interested in
helping out on a level that's more than just dropping by when they're
free. There are some benefits to helping out on a more regular basis,
and we'll be going over those at the meeting as well. Volunteer
Orientation will be in the shop.
Holiday Kid's Bike Giveaway Planning Team Members Needed
2009
marks our 4th Holiday Kids' Bike Giveaway. What's a Holiday Kids' Bike
Giveaway, you ask? We take all the kids bikes we get donated throughout
the year, (this year we're looking at about 200,) tune them up, and
give them away. This year, as last, we'll be having the event at
Boulder Indoor Soccer.
We'll have several work parties that focus on the kids bikes that still
need tuning up, and we'll announce those here as we know about them. We
have some other behind the scenes work that needs to happen during
October and November and the day of the event, which will be on
December 20th. If you're interested in helping with this, please
contact
jo...@communitycycles.org for more information.
North Storage Work Parties
Wednesday nights 4-8 PM
Sundays Noon to 4 PM
If
you haven't been to
North Storage on Wednesday nights, it's a great way
to learn some bike mechanics. Each week, we focus on one or two areas
of bike mechanics (one week will be brakes, the next shifters, etc.) We
teach a short lesson at the beginning of the day, and then everyone
works on just that one system for the day on a bunch of different
bikes.
You don't have to have any bike mechanic experience at
all to help us at North Storage We will teach you everything you need
to know.
Coming Soon: Sunday Work Parties!
Most
of you know about or have been to Wednesday Work Nights. We've been
getting a lot
done at these, both work we need, and teaching you all. Starting on November 8, we''ll be
there from 12 noon to 4 PM on Sunday afternoons. Everyone is welcome to
come to as many North Storage work parties as they would like. Sorry this keeps changing. We're working on getting a regular person up there. (Like I said, slower in the shop, but busier over all.)
We
don't publish the address of our North Storage facility, as we work out
of a Boulder County space, and we can't have people showing up when
we're not there wanting to work on bikes. If you're interested in
helping out on a Wednesday night, or a Sunday after October 25th,
please email me or call the shop
(720-565-6019) prior to the day before you'd
like to participate for details. I don't always get to every email the
day I receive them, so if you ask for directions too late, you may not
get them in time.
