Hey Everyone,

Apologies on several fronts:

1. We've had some techinical difficulties with the Google Groups in
the last month. It appeared that we were sending them out, but no one
was getting them. From this angle, it looked like no one was
interested in helping out. GAH!

Sorry that we haven't sent out an email in over a month. We've been
trying to!

2. As an interim solution, we've got this less formatted email. The
links are all typed out, and there's no color or headings. Sorry for
the sea of text.

This whole episode and natural progression has us looking at some
other options. If anyone out there has experience using Salesforce.com
to manage an email list, please please get in touch.

As always, thanks for your help with everything. It's good to see the
shop as busy as it is despite the weather. Hope everyone is staying
dry and warm out there. For more information about how you can stay
dry and warm while riding your bike in the snow and cold, check out
the Winter Cycling Workshop we have coming up, mentioned below.

Below is what we have coming up this week and a little beyond.

Thanks again, and I'll talk to you soon!

WINTER CYCLING WORKSHOP TOMORROW

This isn't really a volunteer opportunity, but it would be great to
see some of you in the class.

We're having our second Winter Commuting Workshop TOMORROW, December
9th. It will be at the shop from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM.
The workshop will cover:

Gear--What to wear, what to ride, and what your bike needs to keep
going through the winter.
You--How to ride safely in the snow and ice, how to maintain your bike
through the slushy, salty snow, and how to make studded snow tires.
There will be a suggested donation of $25 for this class, and
advanced registration is encouraged but not required. Register for the
December 9th Winter Cycling Workshop here:

http://communitycycles.org/component/dtregister/?eventId=14&task=event_register&type=reg_individual

We'll also be having the same workshop in two separate sessions on
January 13th. Register for those on our website.

You can register for the 2-5 PM session here:

http://communitycycles.org/component/dtregister/?eventId=12&task=event_register&type=reg_individual

You can register for the 5:30-8:30 PM session here:

POLICE BIKE PICKUP, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 10TH, 2 PM

Community Cycles will be receiving a large donation of bikes from the
Boulder Police on Friday December, 10th at 2p.m. We need 8-10 people
to help us prep the bikes and get them over to the shop.
Meet us at the Boulder Police Station 1805 33rd St, Boulder, 80301
You don't need to be a mechanic to help with this, but you should wear
clothes that can get dirty, and you should be able to lift a 30-40
pound bike into the truck.

If you're interested in this one, please email
ri...@communitycycles.org.

KIDS BIKE GIVEAWAY, HELP NEEDED FROM DECEMBER 14TH THROUGH THE 2OTH.

2009 marks our 4th Holiday Kids' Bike Giveaway. What's a Holiday Kids'
Bike Giveaway, you ask? We take all the kids bikes we get donated
throughout the year, tune them up, and give them away. This year, as
last, we'll be having the event at Boulder Indoor Soccer.

We'll be working on kids bikes beginning December 12th and going all
the way up to the morning of the 20th. If you're interested, please
get in touch with me and I'll put you down on the schedule. Commit to
one hour or 4. Or more. We're expecting to tune up and distribute over
300 bikes this year.

Please note, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT WORKING ON BIKES
to help us with this.

We have some other behind the scenes work that needs to happen during
December and the day of the event, which will be on December 20th. If
you're interested in helping with this, please contact
jo...@communitycycles.org for more information, or just sign up for a
shift on our website at www.communitycycles.org.

You can also support this awesome event financially. In order to cover
the cost of the Holiday Kids Bike Give-Away we're looking for sponsors
for the bikes. Sponsor one or mulitiple bikes with a $20 donation per
bike and help us offset our cost to get these bikes out to the kids
who need them.

NORTH STORAGE WORK PARTIES

North Storage Work Parties
Wednesday nights 4-8 PM
Sundays Noon to 4 PM
That's right, Sundays are go!!!!!!
(Please note that North Storage work parties are cancelled if there's
snow on the ground. Sorry for the inconvenience!)

If you haven't been to North Storage on Wednesday nights, it's a
great way to learn some bike mechanics. Each week, we focus on one or
two areas of bike mechanics (one week will be brakes, the next
shifters, etc.) We teach a short lesson at the beginning of the day,
and then everyone works on just that one system for the day on a bunch
of different bikes. You don't have to have any bike mechanic
experience at all to help us at North Storage We will teach you
everything you need to know.

North Storage is located at 820 Lee Hill Drive, in Boulder. From
Broadway and Lee Hill, go west towards the mountains about 2 blocks.
We operate out of a County building that's a series of large garage
doors. We're in the green steel building that has white garage doors.
It's best if you can get there at the beginning of the session, so
that we can go over instructions, etc, with everyone as a group, but
we can use you whenever you show up.

Please note: North Storage work parties are cancelled if there is snow
on the ground at the time of the scheduled opening.

AMERICORPS POSITION AVAILABLE FOR CURRENT NAROPA STUDENT, OR NAROPA
ALUMNI

We're looking for a Naropa student--currently enrolled or an alumni--
to fill an Americorps volunteer position. If you think you may be
interested, please get in touch. We're still designing the position,
and would love your input. Email ri...@communitycycles.org if you're
interested.
