Hey everyone,

Here's our weekly email of things to do at Community Cycles. It's the second day of fall, and it doesn't seem like things have slowed down one bit!

Please contact me with any questions.

Thanks again for all of your support, enthusiasm, and hard work!

Facilitator Training Meeting, THIS Thursday September 24, 6-7 PM
Facilitators (or "Tater's" as we like to call them) are high level volunteers who help around the shop and at events. There are some benefits to being a Tater, (discounts, access to parts, plus more) and some commitment as well. We'll be discussing what the benefits and commitments are for Taters at our monthly Tater meeting.
If you'd like to get more involved on a regular basis with Community Cycles, this is a great way to do that.

Valet Bike Parking at Solar Homes Tour, Saturday, September 26 9:30 to 4:30
Boulder's Conservation Center is hosting a tour of Green and Solar homes this weekend, and we'll be providing their valet parking for bicycles. This is a very fun event, and it's a great way for us to provide a service to folks who may not know about us. We need a couple of volunteers to help us with this. We'll also be tuning up bikes at our space there, so experienced mechanics are encouraged to volunteer for this one. Please contact jo...@communitycycles.org if you're interested in helping out.

Shop Hours Changing in November
It's that time of year again. The sun hides behind the mountains more each day. Come the Daylight Savings time switch the first week of November, our shop hours will change. The new schedule will be as follows:

Monday: Closed to the Public, Women and Trans Night, 6-8:30 PM
Tuesday, Wednesday: Closed to the public
Thursday: 3-8 PM, Members only (No Earn-a-Bike)
Friday: 3-8 PM, Open shop
Saturday, Sunday: 11-5 PM, Open shop
Please make note of the new  hours, and plan ahead for your visit. Hopefully these hours will be easier to remember and pass on.

First Annual Community Cycles Open House
November 5, 5-8 PM
Planning Committee Members Needed
To bring in the new shop hours with style, and to express our thanks to our existing members, we're hosting an open house. We've gone through a lot of changes in the past year, and we'd like to show them off. We'll have food, drinks,
and a silent auction to raise money for Community Cycles

We've got a bunch of work to do to make this happen as big as we'd like. If you're interested in helping with some party planning, getting the word out, or soliciting donations, please contact jo...@communitycycles.org ASAP. We've got a lot of work to do. Also, if you work for a company you think might be willing and able to make a donation to our silent auction (we're looking for items or services between $20 and $100,) please also get in touch with Josh to pick up a donation packet for prospective donors.

Grant Team Meeting Wednesday 6 PM
A few of us will be getting together tomorrow night to go over our grantwriting program. If you've got some grant-writing experience, please get in touch with josh. We're getting together tomorrow night to powwow and plan the year ahead of us.

Wednesday Night Work Parties, North Storage, 4-8 PM
We're really making a dent in the pile of bikes we've had donated to us, but there's always more to be done. We get about 100 bikes donated to us every month. If we don't process that many, we end up with an overwhelming surplus that needs attention and quickly gets out of hand. It's an easy and free (and fun; don't forget the fun!) way for you to learn some bike mechanics. We can usually handle up to about 30 volunteers on this night.
The space is donated to us by Boulder County, so we don't publish it anywhere on our website. If you're interested in helping out on a Wednesday night, please contact jo...@communitycycles.org.

VeloSwap, Saturday, October 24th, National Western Comple, Denver
We've got a bunch of parts and things we'll be taking down and offering for sale at our booth (one of the largest booths staffed by a non-manufacturer) at VeloSwap this year. We need help loading the trucks, and undloading them once we're there. If you're interested in coming with us to the "The World's Largest Consumer Bicycle and Sports Expo", we can definitely use the help.

Beer Garden Help at Boulder Racing Cyclocross, October 25th
We're partnering with Boulder Racing and sponsoring the Beer Garden at their Cyclocross event in October. We need some help carding people at the gate and serving beer, and we'll get some funds in return. This will be a great way for us to get our name out to a different group of cyclists than we normally serve. Sorry kids, you must be 21 or older to help with this one.

YEAB Instructors Needed.
Our Youth Earn-A-Bike program is one of our oldest and most successful programs we have. We'd like to ensure that the program continues strong into 2010. To do that, we need some instructors who can commit to a 6 week stretch of teaching classes. You don't need to be an experienced mechanic to do this, but you won't remain unskilled for long. Teaching the kids is a great way to learn your own mechanic skills. Please get in touch with jo...@communitycycles.org
if you're interested in joining our Youth Earn-A-Bike team.

Women and Trans Night Hosts Needed.
The Women and Trans Night team needs help finding interested ladies and transpeople who are willing to work towards providing a safe space for women and trans folks to come in and learn or teach some bike mechanics, or work on their own bikes. You don't need to be an expert mechanic to be the right person. For more information about the Women's Night, or to see if you'd be interested in helping staff the evening, please contact l...@communitycycles.org.
