Howdy folks,

Thanks again for all of your help with everything. As we head into the winter, we've got a bunch of stuff planned to keep us busy. Don't think that just because it's cold out there's nothing happening at Community Cycles. Some of us even ride or commute year round, snow bedamned. If anyone's interested in coming out and learning how to outfit your bike and your self for winter/snow commuting, (including how to make your own snow/ice tires, how to dress for sub-zero temperatures, etc,) email me. We've wanted to have a workshop about this for several years now, but we've seen very little interest so far. As this list grows, I'm thinking some of the newer folks might be into it.

If you know of someone who may be interested in coming out and volunteering, or earning a bike, please feel free to forward this email on to them. We're happy to send this to as many people as possible.

Let me know if you have any questions about any of these events.

Thanks!

Wednesday Night Worknights in North Boulder, (Sundays coming later this month!)

Every Wednesday we teach a group of people how to do one or two things on a bike. Then we turn the team loose on the over 400 bikes we have stored in a garage in North Boulder. This happens from 4 PM to 8 PM every Wednesday. It's a great way to come learn some bike mechanics and help us tune up bikes. The space is donated to us by Boulder County. As such, we don't publish the address. It is easy to get to by bike, bus or car from anywhere in Boulder. If you're interested in coming out and learning some bike mechanics, get in touch with me and I'll send you the address.
If you've been before, you don't need to check in beforehand, just show up at 4. We'll be there, ready for you. We have the ability to handle about 20 or 30 people. We have yet to turn anyone away up there.

We have all the tools you'll need. Just come ready to work and get dirty.

Digital Projector needed for loan or donation.
We'd like to have a movie night at the shop, where we blast movies up onto the walls and eat popcorn or other snacks. If you have a projector you would let us borrow, or would be willing to donate to Community Cycles, please get in touch with me. The donation would be tax deductible.  Thanks!

Volunteer orientation, Thursday, October 22, 6-7 PM
Come learn how we can use you above and beyond working in the shop and the events on this list. We're looking for folks who are interested in helping out on a level that's more than just dropping by when they're free. There are some benefits to helping out on a more regular basis, and we'll be going over those at the meeting as well. The Volunteer Orientation will be in the shop.

Monthly Facilitator meeting, Tuesday, October 27th, 6-7 PM
Facilitators are the folks who have been around a while, and know the operation. If you'd like be involved with Community Cycles on a higher level, this may be the meeting for you. There is some training involved, both mechanical and organizational. Come prepared to get some work done.

Volunteer Appreciation and Member Open House Party, Thursday, November 5, 5-8 PM
We're holding our first ever Annual Volunteer Appreciation and Member Open House Party, and you're invited! We also need some help getting work done before the event. Gathering donations, setting up the night of and cleaning up after the event. If you're interested in helping make this a night to remember, please contact me. I've got lots for you to do, and none of it involves bike mechanics!

Family Learning Center After School Bike Club, Ongoing Wednesdays,  3-5 PM
We're the sponsor of the After School Bike Club at the Family Learning Center. What is the After School Bike Club, you ask? It's a bike class that kids at the FLC can take to learn safe riding skills, bike mechanics, and teamwork. The class is 8 weeks long and meets once a week. The students ride bikes to the shop, practicing good bike riding skills, hand signals, and awareness for riding in a group. Once we arrive at the shop, the students learn all about bike mechanics.

We're looking for several instructors who can lead the kids on rides, teach mechanics, and work with the kids to provide a great learning experience in this class. We need instructors who can commit to teaching at least one 8 week session. If your mechanical skills aren't where they need to be to teach a class, but you're interested in helping, please get in touch. We can teach you enough to get by, and by teaching the class, you'll often learn more than the students do.

Boulder Racing Cyclocross Race, Beer Garden Servers needed,  Sunday, October 25th
Ever been to a cyclocross race? Imagine a bike race that's half road race, half mountain bike trails. Ridden on a road bike with fat tires. Seriously.
We're hosting the beer garden at this leg of the race, happening on October 25th, at the Boulder Reservoir. We need volunteers there from 10:30 to about 5 PM. This includes set up and take down of our booth. We need at least two people to staff the booth, but more would be better.
It'll be a great chance for us to meet some people who ride who haven't been into the shop yet. We'll also be raising money at this event. Come check out the race, help us serve beer to racers and spectators, and check out some locally brewed beer.
Sorry kids, this one is 21+ only.

Farmer's Market "Greeters" Needed.
If you've been a greeter in the shop, and enjoyed that part of what we do, please get in touch with me about helping out at our Farmer's Market Booth, or other tabling opportunities. Being a greeter is a good way to learn what we do as an organization, and having that experience will help you talk to new people about us. Let me know if you have been in the office for a shift or two, and would like to continue doing similar work. You would not be stuck in the office, of course, but out at an event, promoting Community Cycles.
