Dear CBN,

Our democratic society relies on the active engagement of our greatest assets: our citizens. Our work inspires people to take action focused on meaningful social, political, and economic change, yet we are still faced with the challenge of ensuring that the American volunteer is trained to make the greatest impact possible.

To address this challenge, Points of Light and Portland State University have developed a for-credit, interactive online course called Citizen Academy: Foundations for Community-Engaged Leadership. The course explores community-engaged leadership through service-learning teaching methods, offering its students a chance to gain critical thinking, community problem solving, and civic dialogue skills.

We are proud to share this opportunity, and ask that you also pass this along to anyone you feel might be interested or benefit from this experience.

If you have any questions please send them to Tricia Thompson at ttho...@pointsoflight.org or Brandon W. Kliewer, Ph.D. who will lead the course as an associate scholar for Points of Light.

Brandon is an assistant professor of civic engagement and Campus Director of the American Democracy Project at Florida Gulf Coast University. Brandon can be reached at bkli...@fgcu.edu or bkli...@pointsoflight.org.

Please see attached for more information.

Thank you for all you do!
