America Needs Climate Disaster Relief

If passed, Trump's proposed budget will cut funds for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the agency that provides relief from climate disasters. Our speaker will give us the inside scoop on the politics behind FEMA and why it's imperative that Congress intervene. Our speaker is Rachel Cleetus, senior policy director with the Climate and Energy program at the Union of Concerned Scientists. She is an expert in policies to promote clean energy in the power sector, including carbon pricing. She is also an expert on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) process and has been attending international climate negotiations since 2009.
In this challenging time, inspiration from Jewish sources gives us strength. Dr Adriane Leveen is senior lecturer in Hebrew Bible at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. Her passions include teaching Biblical Prophets and the Book of Job. She is co-founder of Jewish Climate Action Network NYC and Bronx Jews for Climate Action, and facilitates JTREE USA.
After the speakers conclude, take action together to restore FEMA.

JEWISH EARTH ALLIANCE MEETS WITH CLIMATE LEADER SENATOR CHRIS VAN HOLLEN
|
|
Dr. Mirele Goldsmith, Jewish Earth Alliance co-founder, with Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) and Jill Ortman-Fouse, former member of Montgomery County Board of Education. In response to Mirele's question, Senator Van Hollen encouraged Jewish Earth Alliance to focus advocacy efforts on passing Polluters Pay legislation, defending FEMA and NOAA from budget cuts, and protecting the development of offshore wind energy from the hostility of the current administration. The senator spoke at "Pushing Back and Moving Forward," hosted on May 12 by the Center for American Progress.
