--Dear Friends,
Looks like the time has arrived for us to intensify our struggle to get SC Status for our sisters and brothers of scheduled caste origins through legal course of action.
Both the Government of India National Commission of Minorities (NCM) have taken a similar stand to protect the interests of both religious and linguistic minorities. They told the court that the “numerically smaller or weaker classes are bound to be suppressed and overpowered by the dominant majority groups.” NCM further clarified the position stating that Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists of scheduled castes get reservation benefits.
Sadly, we as a community have not been able to obtain this benefit for scheduled castes origins of Dalit Christians and Dalit Muslims. Whereas there is a long pending case before the Supreme Court of India for hearing and a response from the government of the day.
The court will examine the replies of Center and NCM on 23rd August. I hope this will make all concerned realise how Christians and Muslims are being discriminated against on the basis of religion – a fundamental right guaranteed under the Constitution of India.
Let's get activated!
Thanks & regards,
AC
