Hello Common Cycle!

We’re excited to announce there are still some spots available for our Winter Maintenance Course. The class starts in six days, on Monday January 26, 2026. Applications close Thursday, January 22nd at 11:59 p.m OR when we reach 16 applications.

Note: Our spring class will be offered in the spring and run from about late March to late April. A separate email will go out in March to announce that class. We'll plan a little more time before the application deadline.

The winter class will be held in cooperation with UM Adventure Leadership. As with our fall 2025 class, we are trying a new four-week class format that focuses on the most common bike maintenance issues, including diagnosing common problems, brake and shifting issues, and wheel truing. A basic overview of the syllabus can be found on our website.

Please read the information and apply at the link below if you'd like to take part. We always receive more applicants than we have available slots, but we will do our best to accommodate as many applicants as possible. The limited class size is to ensure there is enough time and space to create a positive learning environment for participants. Current volunteers will be given priority. No knowledge of bike repair is required - just an interest in learning more and helping others.

Common Cycle's maintenance courses are intended to help train current and future volunteers and community members by providing hands-on experience and general knowledge about fixing bicycles and assisting people who come to our bicycle co-op.

Common Cycle's Winter 2026 Maintenance Course will be held on Mondays from 6:30-8:30 pm, beginning January 26th, and run for 4 consecutive weeks, concluding on February 16th. Classes will be held at the Common Cycle Co-op, located at 416 W Huron St Suite #11, Ann Arbor, MI 48103

Although this is a low/no-cost course, we ask you to respect both the high demand for this opportunity and the large amount of volunteer work that goes into coordinating and teaching the course. Specifically:

  • If you are enrolled, we expect you to attend all four sessions or make clear in your application that you will not be able to attend all sessions.

  • If selected, we expect participants to complete at least one of the following:

    • Volunteer at least once a month over the next 4 months (these can be while you're enrolled in the class as a way to complement your work in class), OR

    • Donate $25, but no one is turned away for lack of funds, OR

    • Write a 250-word essay on why you’d like to take the course.

We filled some of the course slots already with people who applied but did not attend the Fall 2025 course.

Best Regards!
