There Are No Children Here tells the story of two young boys growing up in the other America, the Henry Horner Homes, located in northwest Chicago. They are separated from their mother at birth and raised by their father. One brother is slightly older than the other, but both seem to be on good terms with each other. One of the boys, Orpik, comes to live with his cousin Maxim, while the other stays at the Horner home with his mom. They were both brought up together, and later in life found different ways to cope with their unique situation.
This book is an interesting read. It is written in a very casual tone and features a great number of illustrations. Reading this book made me realize just how different people are really compared to how we see and treat them, just by having the book itself. Reading this made me realize that sometimes we have to look deeper than our surface level to get to the whole truth. That is what I found most interesting about this book.
