Authors Nancy C. Eisenman, Amy Dorn Kopelan and Jennifer Greene offer readers an exceptional combination of practical, educational and inspirational material that will help students develop skills they need to succeed in today's economy. ISE Business Foundations: A changing world by Ferrell provides students with the information they need to succeed in the 21st century. The authors begin with a discussion of the business fundamentals that form the basis for any successful organization and then present a simple model for understanding how these fundamentals can apply to individuals. Business Foundations: A changing world by Ferrell teaches students how to succeed by providing them with the skill set they need to succeed-business basics through an introduction to marketing, basic economics, and international business.

Following a brief introduction on the importance of globalization and the effect it has on small businesses, the book then goes on to describe the different economic philosophies across all cultures, highlighting the differences between localized and global practices. A short chapter explores why some businesses have flourished in one country while others have languished, then goes on to detail the different methods of organizing small organizations, highlighting their strengths and shortcomings. The final chapter focuses on the potential of new technologies to affect business, and the book ends with a helpful section discussing the impact of new media might have on today's economy. International Business Foundations offers detailed descriptions of each of the countries covered, as well as the differences between them, and a detailed glossary of popular business terms. The book also includes a valuable explanation of ISE's role in international economic development, and several case studies illustrate the application of this theory across a variety of countries and industries.

While most chapters contain detailed case studies that illustrate various businesses and their successful or unsuccessful histories, some sections of the book leave the reader hanging. This book would have been better had it focused more on the application of the theory to students' lives, rather than the theoretical constructs outlined in the introduction. However, for those who already have strong beliefs in the theory, or are looking for a way to test it against some of today's economic theories, International Business Foundations is an extremely useful addition to any business students' library.
