changing question ids on ongoing survey

Dear users

We made some changes on question ids while the survey ongoing. I made change for question id which was question`12 to kebele ....

one the data export only the latest question id show up with no submission.which is all data's that had been submitted disappeared.

Is there any way to recover the data back.?

Hello, Tewelde,

When you change the name of a question ID, CommCare treats these as two separate questions. The data collected for the deleted question can be accessed in a data export by clicking on Show Deleted Questions and Advanced Properties when editing the Export. You can see an example here:

Hello, Tewelde,

Since these are considered as two separate questions in CommCare, if you want to merge the data you will need to do that in Excel or whatever data tool you are using. In Excel this can be done using the "&" as described here: https://support.office.com/en-US/article/Combine-text-from-two-or-more-cells-into-one-cell-94700285-8458-469B-AAE9-394451A1045C

You could use this to combine the content of both the old and new columns into a third which would have a value for all rows.

Hi Jeremy and Tewelde,

I guess what Tewelde wants to do is to get the old responses for the Q. 12 into the database but not to concatenate the old and the new fields.

If this is true and there was no export before the change of name, then I guess the Q. 12 will be empty for the first submissions before the change which means that Tewelde need a way to retrieve the data for the Q. 12 for those submissions and then replace the empty fields.

Is there a way that one can export data for deleted questions? If yes, then it will be copy-and-paste or simple query can do the trick.
