Has anyone figured out how to control bluray players via IP? I assume
it can be done since there is an iphone app available. I did some
searching but pretty much came up dry , but I may not have been using
the correct terminology since this is all pretty new to me.

First the bluray player would have to be controllable by IP and
connected to your local area network via wifi or ethernet.

If that exists in the bluray player then yes, you can control it via
CF.

Another option is RS232 if the bluray has a RS232 control port.

Otherwise you are left with using IR

The last two options would require a 3rd party controller like a
globalcache iTach.

Well, there a few Blu-Ray players that provide ethernet connectivity.
And there have been some developments down that line of control:

http://bdtouch.com/using-bd-touch/

(Fiasco - Sony is one such company to provide IP connectivity with
there blu-ray players, not to mention there flat-screen TVs as well.)

However, in most these cases, the blu-ray disc must provide that
needed back-end support.

(Foot note number 5)

I am sure that native support is in the very near future.

YEah I guess I should have been more specific. I have have and iPad
and have just started playing with Command Fusion and Bitwise touch
using the bitwise controls BC4X1. I have it controlling Samsung
bluray , Denon 3808 , tv , xbmc , Apple TV and hopefully my HAI system
before long. I started with all IR and have since moved the Denon to
IP and as soon as I catch on I will use the xbmc ( 1-way first and
hopefully graduate to a Fiasco-ish 2-way) via IP. I was thinking since
there are apps to control the Apple TV and bluray then there is
bound to be a way to integrate all of this into CF via IP. From what I
have discovered so far it doesn't seem like it will be as elementary
as the Denon using Telnet with ASCII commands all spelled out for me
on paper , but I am always up for a challenge.

The Apple TV,as well as iTunes, are directly controllable over IP and
without the need of some third party plug-in. Both use a HTTP command
set. I have been working on reverse engineering the protocol since
apple has become the next Microsoft, except far more controlling and
far more.............well.

There are ones out there who have been successful in this endeavor:

If you have a passive network hub or a network switch with port-
mirroring capabilites, you could just capture the data packets between
an Apple TV and say the Apple Provided Remote App for the iPhone/
iTouch. Use a program like WireShark to accomplish this.

Wow, I would really like to have itunes/apple tv communicating direct
with CF. I heard there is a new apple remote app coming out for iPad.

iTunes control will not be possible without a middle-man software
solution at the moment.
The protocol is simply too complex - requires sending multicast UDP
packets for authentication, running a TCP server for receiving
authentication replies, etc.
We are working on a way to implement this in a coming release however.
But for now, you will need a Crestron processor or some special
software such as Autonomic's Media Controls System:
http://www.autonomic-controls.com/support_documentation.php

As for Bluray control, if you have the protocol documents, please
share. We are able to control the majority of ethernet controllable
systems, just depends on the protocol.
Last resort is to run one of the existing iPhone apps that does the
control and reverse engineer the protocol using WireShark.

Deiby

Hardware failure is beyond the scope of this forum. I would search
the web for the manufacturers website and contact them for a service
center.
