Hey cmdln

Just got through your mini-rant about Christmas and the epiphany about
light. I agree.

Supplementary to that, you might be interested in a newish tradition
called "Burning the Clocks" which happens in Brighton, UK (birthplace
of my eldest daughter). Check it out: http://www.burningtheclocks.co.uk/

It's amazing to be around, seeing all these elaborate creations
parading the streets, and then watching them burned on the beach.
Something very primal going on there.

Anyway, season's greets to all, where appropriate :)

cheers, J

Thanks for the information on Burning the Clocks. Fascinating
especially the primary place fire has. Makes me wish I had a much
more expansive travel budget. Hm, wonder if I can get a wildfire
version of it started State-side?

It all seems to come full circle,

Back to where x-mas came from, being Yule.  The celebration of the rebirth of the Son God/King of the Son.  There are many myths that culminate in Xmas that we have now.  But things like the tree, gift giving, bonfires, etc all can be traced back to the rebirth of Lugh(spellings vary by tradition).  &Celebrating that it was seen, by cults of Lugh &non-cults alike, that the lengthening of days is connected with His re-birth.  Of course Xmas &Yule, as celebrated by (most)neo-pagans, are basically imalgamations of these various traditions.

Though there are still family traditions which celebrate Yule &the desire for more light.  Of course this is often just dismissed as fear that winter would go on, or /simple/ celebrations of days growing longer.  Than there is also the human bodies own need for sun light, not just for crops, but for our bodies own ability to create a certain type of Vitamin B.  Its 4am &I'm physically exhausted - despite my trying to sleep for my past seven hours - so which escapes me right now.

But no matter what perspective, I just hope everyone has had/will have had a safe season.

*smile* . . . just cause.
