Scripting Language that compiles to C code?

I was recently introduced to The Command Line Podcast by a friend and
I've been catching up on the back archive. In one of the podcasts
there was mentioned something about a scripting language that gets
compiled to C code (and I think you said this is going to change the
way gnome programming is currently done). Hopefully that sounds
familiar and someone can give me a link to more info because I don't
know which show that was and I'm having trouble finding it on the
blog.

Yes, that was Vala and I spoke about it on the 9/9/2007 show.

Not sure I'd call Vala a "scripting" language, per se, but, yes, since
it is designed to be compatible with the GTK/Gnome libraries,
specifically, and meant to be easier/safer to program, it may improve
Gnome applications or at least increase their variety.

My pleasure. It helps that I am pretty much constantly online and
that Vala was top of mind from earlier discussions with some friends.
