Four components of language: Semantics, Syntactics, Pragmatics and Phonetics.

The metaphors:  are “a major and indispensable part of our ordinary conventional way of conceptualizing the world, and that our everyday behavior reflects our metaphorical understanding of experience” .  It means that it reflects our every tiny behavior related to our life around us. So, one Chinese cant easily understand what things happened to an American around him everyday. Then, it would be very difficult for this Chinese to understand what the metaphors that the American talks about. Finally, I want to tell that the metaphors are very important for people to overcome the intercultural communication problems.

Four components of language is Semantics, Syntactics, Pragmatics and Phonetics.
The metaphor is a kind of rhetoric and describe a theme. It is closely related to other rhetorical figures and usually use it to realize the effect through the association , comparison and resemblance. In China,we often use metaphor in our daily talking. It is useful and we could describe the topic easily. In a word, metaphor play a very important role in intercultural communication.

In the book, they talk about the role of metaphor in understanding intercultural communication, but I think in an other way, we must understand the culture to understand the meaning of metaphor as well as how to use it rightly. For example, when I learned English in school, I was a good student and my friend wasn’t. However, when we communicated with foreigners, he seemed to interaction better than me, he knew the metaphor and slang. I think that’s the reason he could communicate so naturally. My friend said he just learned English through movies. When he watched movies, he could know the culture and the right way to use the words. With the same words of the same metaphor, in my culture, it could be funny talking, but in other, it can be considered offense.

Understanding the metaphor is very important for us to study other countries's culture. Sometimes, we may be confused on some expressions. For instance,When we see this sentence "It rains dogs and cats", our mind's subconscious will tell us it is impossible. How can the sky rain dogs and cats? but in english expression, this sentence wants to express a heavy rain. So we can clearly understand the power of metaphor. Here is another example, we can offen hear someone calls his wife daughter and lover as honey. Honey is a kind of food, it's produced by bees. It's very sweet, so many western people like refer to the people they love as honey. To sum up, metaphor is part of language, it's very interesting, it's good for us to fit into another culture.

Semantics, Syntactics, Pragmatics and Phonetics are the four components of language. In other words, you can master a language very well if you will able to apply this four elements naturally. Semantics, which can reflect to multi-meaning of one word, compose a basic language so that I think this is really important like the base of a great architecture. Syntactics, which distinguish a complex language and explain it meaning in a proper, is the development of one language. Pragmatics, which is related to the syntax, is for express the complicated meaning within human communication and you can consider this component as a advanced stage which approaches to the completed  system of the language. Phonetics, which is the most important way to communicate with other people, is the final formation of the language. Accurately, this is the procedure of developing  a language.

The four components of language are semantic, syntactic, pragmatic and phonetic. Metaphors not only help people to understand something about the culture itself, but also other cultures. For example, in English, green-eyed means jealousy, but in Mandarin, we use red-eyed to express jealousy. In most Asian countries, red means enthusiasm, positive, lucky. However in the west countries, red always connect to horrible, blood. One simple word or phrase may have totally different concept in different cultural. So metaphor plays an important role in understanding intercultural communication.

The four components of language are Semantics which is the study of meaning, Syntactic's which is the study of structure or the grammar, Pragmatics which is the study of how language is used in different contexts and Phonetics which is the study of sound system in language.
Metaphor is defined as a thing regarded as a symbolic of something different, which is not literally applicable to the context. Metaphors are commonly used by people in communication and if metaphors are not clearly understood by the listener, there is a possibility of him misunderstanding the communication. Metaphors also help a person in understanding different cultures.

I think, you want to understand the culture from different countries, we need to fully understand its language, for example, studying English, we should understand its Semantics, Syntactics, Pragmatics and Phonetics. Because English and Chinese that their Syntactics is very different.

Metaphor is a way to describe easily and indirectly. However, in different culture people use different things to stand for the meaning. For example, in America, people use chicken to stand for somebody who is timid. Compared with American, Chinese use mouse to stand for somebody who is timid. Chicken stand for somebody who is trustworthy and always on time in Chinese culture. Why they take chicken as different meaning? Maybe in American culture they don’t keep chicken, because they always keep cow and horse and sheep instead of chicken. In contrast, Chinese keep chicken to get eggs and take them as an alarm clock to wake them up in the morning. Therefore, Chinese don’t think chicken is good and trustworthy rather than timid. So we can understand the differences between two different cultures by understanding these differences in metaphor.

You want to learn a new language, you must understand its culture. Because that the different cultures will reflect the different languages. For example, in America, you can’t speak “fuck you or shit” to someone, because it’s too terrible and impolite. But in china, you said that it’s ok. Because that the point of making American and Chinese angry is different. So, you understand different culture is more important to know its language Semantics, Syntactics, Pragmatics and Phonetics.

The four components of language are Semantics Syntactics Pragmatics and Phonetics. Their role is the study of meaning; the study of the structure, or grammar; the study of how meaning is constructed in relation to receivers, how language is actually used in particular contexts in language communities; and the study of the sound system of language.
