The question one:

The language is a tool to communicate and understand what the second language's country people talking about basically. Practicing discourse is the way to understand what the second language's country culture is. So learning both of them may improve your intercultures' communication.

The question two:

English is the most widely used language in the world because the countries who use it as mother language are mostly developed, such as America, England, Australia and so on. Especially America influences the whole world.
Positive: As English becomes so important in the world, Americans are more convenient to do business, travel and study.
Negative: As  more and more people are learning English, most people have two languages. They can get a better job or there will be a big competition for Americans in career.

Speaking and writing in languages can be far different. That’s the reason why so many native speaking people still cannot write well. Studying of language and discourse can be generally equaled to getting to know the appearance and personality of a human. Therefor, to understand a culture well and deeply, the scholars have to study both.

I think most of the countries, in which English is not the first language, students have to study English as the first compulsory foreign language because it’s the International language. The increasing and widespread use of English will give the Americans opportunities to communicate, make friends and understanding other culture. However, when people communicate much, they get influence from each other. On one hand, the American culture can be widespread accompany with language. On the other hand, Americans can also adapt other cultures through communication. Therefor, the American culture can be flatten and losing the unique and standout criteria for being recognized.

Obviously, it is absolutely important for intercultural communication scholars to study the language skills because you won't' get the deeper knowledge of one subject until you experience on your own. It's just like someone will show compassion to the people who have the same experiences. Because, they understand their feeling in site and they will recall the same experience of our own. It's the same reason here for the intercultural communication scholars to study the language skills.

I think the proper way to increase the usage of English around the world is to invest a language elementary school in aimed country cause infants are easily changed by the environment so that we can influence them on the young age. The disadvantage is the big surroundings which their living places are still not using English after all. If they do, sometimes culture will change the meaning of one particular word or a sentence. Then, the multiple formation of language will be easily formed and the original English will be misunderstood or affected in a unexpected way

Language is not only the basic tool of communication but also the important component of culture. We communicate different way or style in different cultural. Different style may offend or make people confuse. For example, American people communicate more direct than Asian people. Thus, it’s important for us to both language and discourse.

English is the most popular language in the world because the English speaking countries are the most developed countries in the world. Just like U.S America is more developed than Britain now, so American English is more popular than British English. High technology, global businesses attract people to come to this land and use English, which also attract a lot of students to study here. That’s why English  increasing used in the world.

It’s fortunate for speakers who use English as a mother language. Because they learn English when they are child, it’s much easier to learn. The negative change for them may make them lazy to learn another language. But in nowadays, most people can speak two kinds of language, which may become a weakness to them.

I think that the language is the most direct and to get to know and understand another culture tools. We want to get better intercultural communication. It is necessary to understand the language between different cultures.

Nowadays, English is becoming a highly developing global language as it is spreading rapidly through the world and is widely used by people. The positives for American, they can get new information and more conversations faster than other countries. The negative for American, they can increase to know and understand the other countries that they have advantage culture.

In my opinion, communication is from the same language. So, I think the language is more important for intercultural communication. For example, in our English second language class, my classmates are form many different countries about Vietnam, India Taiwan and China. So, we take communication need to speak English and we can understand each other.

Today, English as a mainstream language in the world, it promotes the communication between different cultures. The positive for American, they can get a good job in a multinational, because they can get better communication in other countries. The negative for American, they can’t take the initiative to understand other cultures’ language, because they think their language is more popular.

1. Obviously, language and discourse are very important for intercultural communication, because intercultural communication scholars not only need to learn other countries' language to understand what these countries' people speak, think, write and so on, but scholars also need to learn other countries' discourse for properly expressing what they want to say, think and write, which can be easily understood by these countries' people.

2. Positive: When English is widely spread, people can more frequently communicate with different countries' people than ever before, which is good for human society development. Especially, it's good for the people who speak english as first language, like Americans.
Negative: When more people learn English as a second language, these people will compete with the people who speak English as first language, like Americans, and Americans will have to compete with people who come from all over the world.

Its important for scholars to study both the language and discourse because learning a language will teach them how to use a language and studying the discourses will teach them the official way of using a language, it helps them understand how language is used in different contexts in that language culture. For example I think studying the discourse might differentiate Mandarin and Cantonese for a scholar.
Using of English through out the world does just help the Americans or Britishers but it helps the whole world in the terms of globalization and world trade. If usage of English is much higher its much easier for people to communicate, know each others cultures and make better trades. It also avoids misunderstandings caused while using a translator, because a translator might some times fail to carry the exact message in the exact tone.
As far as the usage of English through out the world, I don't see any disadvantages, except for disturbing the cultural harmonies, which will happen anyway due to globalization.

Different culture has their different language. Even they are different language, there are some word having the same spelling. Some word are really totally the same even the meaning, but some word have totally different meaning. So scholars need to understand the language deeply. How to use them and what is its source. If scholars are not good at the language and discourse, they may make some mistakes, misunderstand the meaning, and finally make the wrong conclusion. I think when the two countries are discussing important issues, such as about their benefit or their religions, they both need someone who knows their languages and discourse to communicate for them to escape offending the other country. The other most usually using that is in commercial. They want to get different countries’ support and like, they need to the help of scholars who are good at both language and discourse to succeed.

Language use plays an important role in intercultural communication; it is closely tied with our and others’ identities as we saw in the chapter on identity, and it is also related to the groups we belong to and our social place in society. In a world of multiple languages, we sometimes think that successful communication is just a matter of whether people speak the same language or not. However language clearly cannot be overlooked as a central element in the process. Nowadays, more and more people speak English and came to the United States to bring some good and bad culture which affected American culture I think.
