Part 1: Lightning Talks
-----------------------------------------

3 to 4pm.

Each lightning talk runs for about 15 minutes, followed by Q&A.

-- HOW TO GET A FREE 1-WEEK TRIP TO JAPAN BY BEING AN OTAKU

Yiting a.k.a. Cles Astodor Haras will share his experience of a recent Otaku trip, and tips on how to cover cost and even make some money along the way.

-- ART+BUSINESS: CREATING A TRADING CARD GAME

The TCG (trading card game) industry is worth billions of dollars every year. Magic The Gathering is perhaps the most famous case study. Singapore artist Shawn Siow will share his 2-year experience of creating a viable home-grown TCG, and offer freelance job opportunities for local fantasy art illustrators. This talk will cover:

    * Importance of the business side of art.
    * Knowing your market: what the market wants, what people will buy.
    * How to create a viable product: quality control of artwork; how an arist's pride/ego can become an obstacle.
    * Important artist skill: knowledge of anatomy.
    * Need to produce new set of cards every 3 months -- opportunity for artists to participate in this product development.

-- CHECKLIST APPROACH TO WRITING STORIES

JF Koh is adapting "Lions of Stone", a short story by writer Grey Yuen, into a comic-book script to be drawn by Chris de Joya. This is a fantasy story about stone lion statues coming to life to protect a family. JF will share his checklist of criteria which he uses to ensure that the story will hook the reader by incorporating strong dramatic tension and other important story elements.

Part 2: Boothing Bootcamp for Starving Artist Fair
------------------------------------------------------------------

4 to 5pm.

Starving Artist Fair is intended to be a bootcamp for comics creators and other artists to learn the business side of comics and publishing, especially marketing, promotion and social media.

In this 1-hour sharing session, the organizers and boothers of Starving Artist Fair will discuss what we have learned from the last 2 editions of the fair:

-- Observations about human traffic, and implications for future fairs.
-- Purchasing patterns -- what sells better, what didn't sell.
-- Tips for boothers -- what worked, what to watch out for.
-- Building your brand as an artist.
-- Social media strategy.
-- New curation criteria -- No more first-come-first-served, but bookings will be filtered based on quality of write-ups and promo images.

All boothers who have participated in the fair, and anyone interested in boothing at the fair, are invited to attend this bootcamp.

Part 3: Braintrust (story feedback session)
------------------------------------------------------------------------

5 to 6pm.

The Braintrust is a system in which experienced artists and writers give honest feedback to help improve one another's comics. The creator is not obligated to use any feedback which doesn't work for the story, but is free to make the final decision on which ideas to use. It is a system based on respect, trust and honesty.

At Panelgraph, we have started our own Braintrust, as a way to learn and to improve our storytelling skills. A few of us will give feedback for one another.

If you are interested to get feedback on your comics, please indicate in the comments, so we can organize the timing.

Anyone interested may sit in, and hopefully we will all learn from the process.
