Interesting timing of your post considering we just had a couple of 75 cent hours.  Very odd pricing as it was low all day, shot to hourly price of  75.7 for 2pm, 75.8 for 3pm, and is now trending back down at 5-minute pricing of 2.2 and 1.0 for 3:05pm and 3:10pm respectively.

Also, does anyone else have an issue with the live-prices site not working correctly in Chrome these days?  Stopped earlier in the summer so now I have to use Edge.

And super high again. This is really annoying. They advertise 'check prices, shift usage, reduce electricity bill'. When prices jump unexpectedly like this, it seems like it's someone's fault or manipulation. Like a plant went down. Except it's affecting almost the entire PJM region negatively.

Below are the peak hours I am seeing for PJM and ComEd. Note that your average PLC obligation is driven by your average during the PJM peaks, then add about 10% for various distribution and transmission loss factors applied by ComEd.
ComEd peaks can only come into play for some weather adjustment factors, but for a regular household it should not make any difference.

Based on PJM auction results I expect the price paid from June 2020 to go down by 10% per kW of obligation (as measured in the summer of 2019).

Gotta love that Exposure on Sat 7/20/19 at 3pm - luckily I was at 0.46KWh - could have had the electric vehicle on a charge.

We only "religiously" charge the car from 12:3- - 4:30 am

I looked into the event on 10/1/2019.  Basically the forecast demand was off by about 5GW for the late afternoon and early evening peak.  They called out for synchronized reserves (which cost $$$) so shortage pricing kicked in.  That's where generation companies see the real money, and is why who ever masters utility scale energy storage is going to make a lot of money.

When capacity gets tight several shortage prices and penalties kick in, and prices go wild.
