Thanks for sharing.

I built a quick-and-dirty tool to pull in data from PVWatts,  RRTP pricing, and my bill to help size my PV system.  Over the last two years the value of our (predicted) overproduction was lower than I though it would be.  It's still higher than the average night rate, but only by a cent of two.  I ran it before our little heat wave in September 2017.  Also December 2017 and January 2018 had some impressively high hourly rates, but we wouldn't have much solar production.  Our Dec/Jan bill was the first where we paid more with RRTP compared to the fixed rate.

Related, I went with a 6kW system, which is a good amount more than we use, but we have an EV in our future.

Thanks,
Ryan

Hi Rex,

We don't have the panels installed just yet.  They are due to be on the roof in March.  I have been modeling systems with PVWatts (and some data from other Chicagoland systems) to try to size mine.  In the end, I decided to go a little bigger thinking that we might end up getting a used Nissan Leaf as a second commuter car.  Or maybe I can start mining cryptocurrencies if I'm running at too much of a surplus.  ;-)

Regards,
Ryan
