Charlie:
I am on vacation with limited e-mail access so I have not read the editorial yet. I did want to highlight a recent conversation with some law enforcement officials who described the serious problems being encountered with returning Guard and Reserve military members back into their civilian law enforcement roles. Apparently a national police orgainzation will be publishing a research piece on this topic this fall. I will track this down after my holiday and share wioth others.

Hi Anne,
I totally agree. Do you want to write an entry or two on these topics?
I am sending a copy of this to the networks because I hope it will stimulate thinking and other suggestions like yours.
Thanks,
Charles

Hi Charles,
What a fascinating idea!! In reading over the thematic descriptions in the attached editorial, I think there is are additional topics under Crime and Law that are relevant, including the professionals who work with criminals in prison or on parole. I am still with Corrections Canada and conduct risk of violence assessments and risk of sexual violence assessments. I have read and heard offenders talk about some horrific crimes that are ripe material for potential secondary traumatization. Parole officers and others also are faced with these details and parole officers have been traumatized. Some parole officers are victimized by violent felons, as are other staff including psychologists. In addition, guards in the prisons are often exposed to traumatic events in the form of inmate suicides, murders and riots. Moreover, offenders themselves can be traumatized by their own offenses (e.g., committing murder when in a dissociative rage, or when intoxicated etc). I would be interested in contributing to the encyclopedia in whatever capacity I might be of use.
Take care,
Anne
