our standard requirement for tile cuts, shipping breakage, or future repairs is 15% overage.
should your project require a less authentic look, without the imperfections standard to zellige, please order 20-30% overage in order to cherry-pick the tile.
do i need to seal zellige tiles?
for exterior sealing, cl recommends stonetech heavy duty exterior sealer from laticrete.
for glazed zellige with visible crazing, unglazed natural zellige, or if using a contrasting grout, cl recommends sealing with stonetech heavy duty sealer from laticrete as a pre-grout treatment.
dry applications of glazed zellige do not require sealing as the final step of installation.
for all other sealing and protecting, cl recommends stonetech bulletproof sealer from laticrete.
for more information about sealing please see our zellige material guidelines.
do you offer trim for your zellige tile?
at cl we follow the international model of no trim and highly recommend our clients to do the same. below are the trim alternatives we recommend for this collection.
- if your project needs to turn a corner either inwardly or outwardly, mitering the tiles to meet seamlessly in a corner gives it the cleanest, crafted finish.
- another way to complete your tiling is to run a bead of caulk or grout along the exposed tile edge
- if you have a painted surface next to your bejmat tile, you can choose to paint the outer edge of the tile to match the painted surface.
- like with any of our tiles, you can also build out the sheetrock so that the surface of the finished sheetrock is flush with the surface of the tile.
for more detailed recommendations about about trim, please see our trim guide.
all tiles in our zellige collection have a glossy glazed finish with the exception of charred cedar which is glazed but with a textured satin finish rather than glossy, and natural zellige which is unglazed and has an unfinished porous surface.
how much variation should i expect?
zellige tiles are created from natural glazes, pigments and clay, are fired in handmade kilns using olive pits, and chiseled by hand into desired shapes and sizes. because of the natural materials and the artisan production methods, there will be noticeable variations in thickness, size, shade and color. there may even be differences in the same color across different sizes of zellige. if you want a uniform looking glazed tile, zellige may not be right for your project!
are there best practices for sampling zellige?
due to the high variation in color of our handmade zellige tiles as well as the variation in texture of each tile (pits, specks and chips from the wood-firing process) we strongly encourage sampling more than one piece to get a better sense of what the tile has to offer.
how will my zellige samples compare to my actual order?
as noted in the variation and add on orders sections of our faq, color and size variation between batches (kiln loads) of zellige, in addition to variation from tile to tile, is to be expected given the handcrafted nature of the product. this makes it unlikely that your sample will be a perfect match with your actual order.
if you want a uniform looking glazed tile we do not suggest purchasing zellige.
what should i expect with my order of zellige?
zellige tiles travel a long distance and are packed in the traditional way with sawdust to protect the tiles from breaking.
dust and shipping residue are to be expected and should be cleaned prior to installing.
do your 2"x2" zellige come mounted on sheets?
2"x2" zellige can be made to order mounted on sheets of sixteen pieces measuring 8"x8" overall. with this option unglazed natural zellige 2"x2" tiles come back, mesh mounted, while glazed zellige tiles have a plastic sheet on top of the tiles to hold the tiles in place. individual pieces can be taken off the sheet and moved around in order to blend.
should you be interested in this option, please see our zellige material guidelines for more details and reach out to our sales team for ordering information con...@cletile.com
cl recommends using mortar and unsanded cementitious grout that comply with the ANSI A118 or ISO 13007 classifications suitable for your project. Please consult with your installation professional to make these determinations.
grout color selection is always up to our client and/or their design professional. however, cl is often asked for our opinion on best grout selections for our tiles. and due to the large array of grout colors that are now available, cl would like to offer this general guideline on a foolproof grout color selection for any of your cl tiles:
important: we do not generally recommend using a contrasting grout color with zellige, as it will highlight the thin hairline cracks/crazing found on the tiles, and fill in any pits, and/or chips. if you choose to use a contrasting grout (i.e. white grout with black tile) please order 20-30% overage in order to cherry-pick the tile of the imperfections that are standard to zellige. additionally, you must make sure to apply Stonetech Heavy Duty Sealer from Laticrete as a pre-grout treatment to minimize the possibility of the contrasting grout curing in the inherent hairline cracks, pits, and/or chips.
parched vellum is a natural zellige covered with a warm, linen-toned glaze with the slightest hint of a blush undertone. the glaze brings to life the texture, color, character, and heritage of the clay beneath. this is a tile beyond time: enduring, ancient, and modern.
cl has made it its mission to push the boundaries of surfaces by exploring tiles from around the world, often introducing materials that have been used in other countries and cultures for centuries. zellige is one of these tiles. probably the most defining characteristic of authentic moroccan zellige is its imperfections: its beautiful flaws, irregularities, and its variation. our zellige is created at the center of expertise for zellige craftsmanship, where the art of cutting and chiseling the tiles to exact sizes by hand has been passed down from generation to generation. every tile is hand-molded, hand-cut, and hand-glazed, which means no two zellige tiles are exactly alike.
The 2019 parched. Cabernet Sauvignon is a Bordeaux blend consisting of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon 10% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec. The fruit for this wine is sourced throughout the Napa Valley with a good mix of mountain fruit along with valley floor fruit. The wine exhibits a dark, inky red color, with notes of black berry and cassis on the nose. Layered well with spice and toasty oak, this medium to full bodied wine will be quite pleasant from the start but will reward short term cellaring.
Parched chronicles the stories of Sarel, accompanied by her pack of hunting dogs, who is struggling to exist on the parched African savanna after her parents are murdered and their farm burned. And Musa, a boy with a rare gift for finding water, who is running from the desperate gangs who want to enslave him in a drying, dying city. The two team up to survive and create a new life in their harsh surroundings.
Crowder uses alternating points of view to deepen the emotional impact of her story. When the narrative follows either of the child protagonists, it is told from omniscient/close third. This is interspersed with first-person narrative from the perspective of the main hunting dog, Nandi.
If you do go off-trail, travel only on rock and soft sand surfaces to avoid damaging the plentiful cryptobiotic soil, a living crust that helps tiny desert plants stay rooted and retains moisture in the parched ground.
Parched peanuts in the shell were a favorite throughout the South. People could conveniently carry them in their pockets for snacks throughout the day. School children carried them in their lunches. They were an absolute necessity to get through watching a good SEC football game.
I love parched peanuts and boiled peanuts! I have not been able to get my hands on green enough peanuts around here to boil them. Its a very acquired taste but once you like them you are hooked for life. I seldom roast the peanuts any higher than the 350 mark. Pecans will burn quickly but of course the peanuts are in their shells.
Nothing beats fresh peanuts, for sure. I wish I could find a grower near me so I could pick them, clean them and boil them. The fresher the peanut, they better they are boiled. Do you know of any growers in our part of FL? ?
I love the roast is a noun. I moved to the South from Maine to go to college and lived there for a long time before moving to Australia. I never knew that over half the annual peanut crop goes into peanut butter. Yum.
The 2018 parched. Red Wine is a blend consisting of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon 25% Petite Sirah, 12% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, 2% Malbec, and 1% Petit Verdot. The fruit for this wine is sourced throughout the Napa Valley with a good mix of mountain fruit along with valley floor fruit. The wine exhibits a dark, inky red color, with a richness on the mid-palate, reminiscent of luscious, dark fruit. Layered well with spice and toasty oak, this medium to full bodied wine will be quite pleasant from the start but will reward short term cellaring.
The 2019 parched. Pinot Noir is a single vineyard wine originating from the Gold Coast Vineyard in the Sonoma Coast AVA. The fruit is sourced from two blocks, which are planted to the 777 clone. The wine was aged on the lees, with monthly stirring, while aging in 30% new French oak. This wine displays dark, black cherry notes, with a tantalizing spiciness on the palate. Showing a richness from the extended hangtime, this wine will develop more with a couple of years bottle aging.
The 2022 parched. Chardonnay is a single vineyard wine originating from the Kent Vineyard in the Russian River Valley AVA. The vineyard is covered in fog most of the morning allowing for a slow, consistent ripening, while retaining its freshness. Aromas of lemon and apple drape a nice minerality at its core. There is weight to the mid-palate, as this wine is aged entirely in French Oak for 10 months. This wine shows a balanced finish with the acidity cloaked in a fresh, focused lemon and apple layer. Great with food.
