User invites not being sent

Hi,
I've been using Kanbanize for a private development project for some time now. I want to start using the community edition in collaboration with a friend so I tried to invite him to my existing board.
His email address has been added in the user management, however, he does not get a mail with the invite.
I also tried this with a different email of myself, with the same results.
Have I missed something? is the community edition single user? (why would you show an invite user button in that case?)
