Anybody ever used the aws gem to access glacier?

I think I'm having an aim issue rather than a glacier issue, but I could use a little guidance if anybody has some experience to share.

Bonus: if I get it working, I'll talk about it at crb next week.

Last time I used Aws gem spent hours troubleshooting login issues. Turned out the time was way off on my virt.

The errors in the gem are completely useless. I ended up making the calls directly to get a good error message.

Shot in the dark.

Well. When I follow the gem docs, I get an empty list of vaults. But I created a vault via the console, and it shows up in the account owners login, and my login. I am added via AIM with full glacier access.

When I use '-' as the account id I get the empty list, which might suggest that it is listing my vaults (I have none) rather than the owner's vaults.

When I grab the numeric account number, I get a permission denied error.

Must of the examples online create vaults, and retrieve archives. I could not find a code sample that uploaded an archive. That doesn't bode well as far as the file owner is concerned.

FWIW it is looking looking like a credentials issue.

What are the standard practices when the user doing the work is not the owner of the AWS account?

I created a second AWS account, and added the new one to the owners account via AIM, and gave the new user glacier access, but I'm not sure I got all the wires connected properly.

I was able to get a list_vaults program to work this morning, using my personal AWS account and a 4-line Perl program [modulo fixing a bug in the CPAN AWS module  :-) ].  I plan to try the ruby solution again tonight, starting with my personal account, and then if I get that connected, we'll either have to figure out the cross-account credentialing, or just run programs using the (non-technical) account owner's credentials. The second option being distasteful.
