Dear Beautiful Members of the Columbus Go Club (that means all of you),

We have an exciting opportunity to imbue children in the Columbus Community with the gift of Go/Weiqi. Wen-Li Feng of the Columbus Chinese Academy (CCA) has invited us to teach a Go class at their summer camp this year. Unfortunately I will be out of town at the Go Congress. Thus, the future of Go (in Columbus) rests in your hands (yes you).

Who:
You!

What:
Teaching kids who are staying around for after the camp care.

When:
8/1 - 8/4 at 4:00pm-5:30pm &
8/5 at 3:30pm for community performance of Go playing
(If you can only come for 2 days that is fine)

Where:
Daniel Wright Elementary School
2335 W Case Rd Columbus, OH 43235

How:
Teaching Go to children is easy. It's not about information transfer, it is about fun. If you've never done it, I can teach you how to run an effective program (I've taken multiple workshops on the subject at the 2014 and 2015 Go Congress').

Why:
The CCA will start their academic year on 8/27 and they have invited us to teach classes throughout the year. Teaching at the camp could serve as a perfect introduction to Go and help inspire families to sign up for the year.

The Big Picture:
I am assisting other Columbus schools in starting a program. I dream that one day many schools in Columbus will have Go clubs, we will be able to hold city wide Youth Tournaments. Then, down the road, the US may have a thriving Go community and perhaps even be the birthplace of a internationally recognized Go professional.

Join me in changing the future,

--

We would like to follow up with teaching Go at CCA. Is there any new development?

I'm a terrible teacher in addition to work interfering with the schedule.

I love this idea though I am really bad at the asian names for things as well as not that skilled a player.

Maybe not what you’re looking for, but I could Skype in/help via KGS along with another 2d friend on one of the days.

Hi everyone! It turns out that we're doing this. Alex will be there Monday and Thursday and I'll be there Tuesday and Wednesday. If you'd like to help, please contact me directly at this e-mail address (petez...@gmail.com) or call/text me at 501 617 8311. Or, just show up! As Devin said, this is next week, Monday-Thursday from 4:00-5:30 at Daniel Wright Elementary School, 2335 West Case Rd, in Columbus.

Alex and I haven't talked too much about teaching strategy, but I'm assuming we'll just teach kids the rules and get them to play as much as possible throughout the time. To respond to Tyler and Will, skill level shouldn't matter at all. If you're willing to be around to help kids with rules, counting, etc., and maybe play a game or two with them, come on out!

I'll send another e-mail as more details arrive, but I think that covers the important things: this is happening, and what to do if you want to help.

Best,
Pete

Thanks for the encouragement, Hector! And a quick correction: it will be 3:30-5:30, not 4:00-5:30 as I mentioned in my previous e-mail. (It turns out that 4:00-5:30 is after-camp care and not many kids have signed up, but 3:30-4:00 is an actual session so which reach many more kids.)
