Dear Lama Family,
Ya Shaffee, Ya Kaffee.
We are writing to let you know what’s happening at Lama now and to invite you into this season of restoration and rebuilding on the mountain. With only four residents remaining out of the ten who began the winter circle together, the community is at a critical turning point. The Board of Trustees has stepped up in a more active role to join the residents in receiving a vision for rebuilding during this summer season. There are only 3 retreats scheduled at this point. Annual Gathering (June 11-14), Sufi Sessheen with the Sufi Ruhaniat (June 24-28), and Teen Mindfulness (July 9-12). We will also be starting Community Camp on Tuesday, May 5th, with a ceremony for the 30th anniversary of the Fire on Opening Day, which will be Saturday, May 23rd.
At the core of the summer vision is the call for all old beans, former residents, and lovers of Lama to come up to the mountain throughout the Summer to help manifest the
restoring and rebuilding of the community, both the physical infrastructure as well as the mystery school that Lama has always been.
The steward program is the most important path for Lama’s sustainability, and there is a strong desire to receive strong, mature, and motivated people at this time to join us in
this way. We also acknowledge the importance of holding the stewards in a strong, stable container. This will only be possible now if we get the support of the larger circles
of Lama. We need you to come up the Mountain and join us in modeling the Lama culture for the new beloveds. We invite you to come up for a moon cycle and to hold the
watch for the community, connecting with the spirit of the mountain, and sharing your spiritual practice with the community. Your presence and prayers here, whether it be for
days, weeks, or months, will help to fill our container. ALL input is welcome.
To create a solid container for residents and stewards, we are envisioning a return to the holy Lama daily schedule. This includes a commitment to the daily sit and
communal meals, and two seva periods, one on the wheel and one supporting guardianships. We are also building spaciousness into the schedule to
promote well-being for body and soul.
We are envisioning a rich base of spiritual practice offerings for residents and stewards. We invite you to come up and lead practices in the following: Vipassana, kirtan, tea
ceremony, zikr, dances of universal peace, Shabbat, breathwork, bhakti yoga.
We are praying to make progress this summer in rebuilding Lama’s physical infrastructure in the following areas:
1. Water security: Repair of the springhouse infrastructure, care of the watershed above the spring, design and installation of an integrated rainwater catchment
system, formulating a water conservation plan
2. Land: fire mitigation, land management, firewood gathering, and preparation
3. Buildings: long overdue repair/ upgrades of existing buildings, including plastering and natural techniques
4. Cottage Industry: building the inventory of prayer flags, designing new flags etc., learning about sustainable small business practices, online business training
We acknowledge that these are ongoing long-term projects, and we hope to make progress this summer by creating seva teams to prioritize projects that would be
led by skilled contractors who would come up to lead the teams in discrete projects.
Thank you so much for holding Lama in your prayers and hearts. We look forward to your presence on the Mountain this summer in whatever way you can make it. We
are in process with the schedule and would love to hear from you soon.

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and righting,
there is a field. I’ll meet you there.
When the soul lies down in that grass,
the world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase each other
doesn’t make any sense.
