24th European Sufi Summer School (near Hamburg, Germany) Restoring Ourselves to Life: Dear Friends, A desire for health and healing—on the physical, mental, emotional, and super-sensible levels—is one of the most frequent requests I hear. With the world around us departing more and more from what we thought was certainty, we seem to have less and less to rely on. Yet all of these difficulties and challenges can also point us back to the ultimate healing, which comes from a clearer, more regular connection between what the Sufis call the ruh (in Yeshua's Aramaic ruha), our Big Breath soul, and our nafs (naphsha), the little breath self that allows us to both make mistakes in time and space, but also to love, create, and liberate ourselves in infinitely unique ways. This connection is filled with the light that we can also call love and life energy.
At next year’s summer school we are tapping further into the treasures of our own staff. We are fortunate to have five senior initiates of the Dervish Healing Order on our team, all skilled in different modalities of healing. They along with the rest of our staff will share teachings and practices that unite us in experiences of remembering and enacting our wholeness. My own class will focus on lessons and practices on self-protection—establishing healthy boundaries by boosting our spiritual immune system. I will also dive into accounts of Jesus’ healing and the practices he uses, viewed from Aramaic, his native language. Updating these teachings for today, we will explore other tools for psychic and spiritual self-defense, all of which can lead us from perceived difficulties to the ease of a deeper connection to our heart and soul-nature. Other classes will include: the boundless power of the heart, experiencing the rhythms of life; grounding and dhikr practice; Beautiful Names (asma ul husna) and meditation—sitting and walking—to remind ourselves of our “divine image;” healing songs; the surah Fateha, feminine sources of wisdom and healing through the ages, and more. Registration is now open. As before, a limited number of single rooms is available and go on a first come, first served basis.
