Below are links to the photos and presentation documents for the June 03, 2013 Symposium with SIPO and ACPAA and associated reception about CN patent laws.
We had a wonderful Symposium on July 03, 2013 about recent developments in CN patent laws. However, due to time constraint, we were not able to fully discuss and explore the implications of various CN patent laws. On behalf of the Council, I am visiting SIPO this July in Beijing (1) to discuss with them our questions and/or comments about CN patent laws and their proposed amendments, and (2) to talk about the next year’s meeting—such as the suitable dates. I will be leaving this Friday, June 28.
SIPO liaisons, Zhao Yan and Nie Rui, indicated that SIPO welcomes an informal meeting with me to discuss our questions/comments; however, they would like us to send them the list of questions and/or comments beforehand so that SIPO can find the most appropriate person to talk about the issues of interest for the Council. Many of SIPO people will be leaving for vocation in August, July is their busy month. The earlier I can send them our questions and/or comments, the more likely they can have the most suitable people in SIPO available to meet with me to discuss these issues/comments. Therefore, if you have any questions and/or comments about CN patent laws and their proposed amendments, please forward to me AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I will send you all of your my report about the July meeting.
In addition, during this year’s IP5 and PPH group meetings, there are some indications that SIPO might amend certain CN patent laws and/or change some of their polices. If any of you have any knowledge of the results from the IP5 and/or PPH group meetings, please let Fred, Alan, and/or me know. We can then discuss these changes with SIPO in more detail during my visit this July.
For the next year’s meeting, the proposed time is either the week before or after the INTA meeting (May 10 to May 14, 2014). The location of the next meeting is in Beijing China. Once we settle with SIPO on the dates, the Council will be looking into possible venues for the meeting. We are also looking into setting up a meeting with Beijing IP High Court to talk about enforcement of IP laws in CN.
