Summer is going by too quickly once again and the start of a new CIPLA year is fast approaching. During the summer, the officers and some other CIPLA members have been meeting to discuss ways to change the usual CIPLA format in hopes of making membership more interesting. One of the changes that we are implementing for the upcoming year is to have fewer luncheon CLE meetings and add a few evening events dedicated purely to social networking and fellowship. A social committee is being formed to plan the evening events and if you are interested in participating in the planning please contact me or another officer. We are also working with one of our Capital Law School student members, Lina Abbaoui, on developing a new website and getting CIPLA interactive on social media.
We will start the 2014-2015 CIPLA year on the evening of September 18th with a kick-off social happy hour at the Buckeye Hall of Fame Grill in Grandview Yard. More details will follow soon. This event is replacing the summer social which was historically held in August. Please hold this evening open on your calendars so you can join us.
Luncheon meetings with CLE presentations are planned for October 16, November 13 and December 11. On October 16, Song Zhu, Esq., a partner with Wilmer Hale’s Palo Alto, California office, who I have worked with on IP litigation matters in China, is scheduled to be our guest speaker. A patent prosecution panel workshop is being planned for the November 13 meeting, and Yimei Hammond will speak on IP issues for mergers and acquisitions, and other IP matters, during the December 11 meeting.
In 2015 we plan to offer luncheon meetings with CLE credit on January 22 and March 12 with our annual year end round up on May 14. We are planning social events for February and April. We will have more details on the 2015 meetings later this year.
By the way, if any trademark lawyers are interested in participating on a panel workshop on the “nuts and bolts” of trademark prosecution please let me know. If we have a few people interested, we can put a trademark program together for the meeting in January or March.
Membership applications, a schedule of meetings for the year and more information on the kick off social will be sent soon. Meanwhile, enjoy the rest of the summer and I look forward to seeing you at a CIPLA meeting in the fall.
Regards,
Mark Montana
CIPLA President
