BACKGROUND
Even if you have previously responded to an alert about the State Grants portion of the Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities (SDFSC) program, you need to respond to this alert now. Unless Congress and the President are inundated with faxes from the field during the next few weeks, we will lose this program. The FY 2010 appropriations process is coming to an end and neither the House nor the Senate has restored the funding for this program. This is our last chance to keep this program alive.
The State Grants portion of the SDFSC program is the only federal money for drug and violence prevention that goes to EVERY school district in the country. Our only hope for getting this money restored is to send thousands of letters to Congress and the President about the critical importance of this program and that it is unacceptable to leave most school districts without funding for violence and drug prevention activities.
WHAT'S THE MESSAGE?
Tell Congress and the President that they need to reconsider the decision to eliminate funding for the State Grants portion of the SDFSC program (Title IV, Part A). Let them know this is a gigantic mistake with grave implications for your state and community.
