Subject: Remembering 9/11, Afghanistan and Iraq
To:
columb...@googlegroups.comHey all (sorry if you get this multiple times),
We are individuals coming together on the evening of Thursday,
September 11th to remember the victims of this day 7 years ago, and the
lives lost in the subsequent wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
We
believe that it is impossible to be bipartisan while ignoring the human
cost of war. We will be holding a silent memorial, and will be passing
out white armbands on the day.
We invite the Columbia Community to join us in emphasizing that in this time of war, peace is the greatest service.
So as it works out we will be in the gazebo area tomorrow from 4 to 7.
This is in the south-east corner of campus, between Hamilton, Hartley
and Wallach. We'll have a banner and white armbands to distribute, and
will be wearing black t shirts (please wear the 'we will not be silent'
t shirts, if you do have them!). We'd also like, if possible to sit
together during the telecasting of the speech (~8pm) to form a sort of
black bloc (that isn't really a black bloc of course, but just
visually).
It would be really great to get a strong presence at this so please
pass this onto your friends slash professors and forward out to your
respective listservs? See you tomorrow!
solid,
rahel
