Chefs, strikers, countrymen, lend me your ears.
There is going to be an
important community meeting held this
Saturday, December 13th by the community body which has been negotiating with Columbia on issues of community benefits, the LDC. This has been a very conflictual and divisive process between people in the community that want to be more accomodationist to Columbia and those that are more oppositional, but we have been specifically asked to bring out as many people as possible to this meeting.
Vicky Gholson and Sarah Martin, who are two of the more progressive people on the LDC and who were there for us at every moment of the hunger strike last year have asked that we be there so that we know what is going on, so that we can criticize it if may be, and so that Columbia knows that students aren't sleeping when things happen about Manhattanville, even if its during our reading week. It's not important that people stay the whole time - even if you come for a short time it will be a great thing. I believe the format of the meeting will be a Q/A (probably one that's
quite conflictual) regarding the CBA - its not likely that it will be
signed by this point and I don't know exactly what information will be
revealed.
So, the information for the event is that it is happening on
Saturday, December 13th
541 West 125th Street
Manhattan Pentecostal Church
10 AM - 2 PM
SCEG is going to meet at the gates at probably around 9:45 AM to go down, but you should all feel free to come at any time later.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call me at

Let's remember our responsibility to solidarity with those who our university is going to be bearing down upon....
