We have had several new members join us in the past few days, so I
thought I might once more introduce myself, and encourage everyone
else to do the same.

Hi!

My name is Ian Greulich. I am a web developer. Currently I focus on
php, but I am hoping to branch into Ruby on Rails, professionally,
soon.

I have been a Mac user for nearly ever. However, I didn't buy my 1st
Mac until the summer of 2006. since then, I have gone nuts, possibly
literally, but at least in the Mac world.

I currently have..

a 24" iMac
a 15" Macbook Pro
a 13" Macbook (still for sale btw)

a 6gb iPod (in my defense(?) that was my first real Apple purchase)
an 80gb iPod
an 8gb iPhone

numerous accessories, docks, cables, and the like.

I am the Vice President of the group, and the Apple Liaison (I am not
sure that really means anything anymore, but that's neither her nor
there)

The group meets the second Tuesday of the month at our current home in
the ETV Building next to Williams Brice Stadium, on George Rogers
Blvd. We normally meet about 6pm, but we are flexible.

It's nice to see a bunch of new faces.

Welcome!

Ian

Hey all you new members!

My name is David Duggins and I also am a web developer.  Like Ian, I work mainly with php, but hope to branch out into Ruby on Rails.....and incidentally..we work in the same place :)

I've been using for going on two years now.  I've been using Linux in various forms since 1999 and I am very comfortable with the whole UNIX family.  My first foray into Apple was a 40gig iPod.  (I wish I still had it)  I currently own a 13" Macbook and a 16gb iPhone (1st Gen).  At work I use a souped up mac Mini.  According to Apple, I am the president of the group, but it's really Ian, Jed and myself together here.

For the time being, it seems that the majority of attenders are web-developers in various stages, and so we have been mainly focusing on web development on the mac.  We would love to have more folks with a more diversive macground at our meetings.  Please come and meet us in person, like Ian said below, at ETV second tuesdays of the month.

We may be small at the moment, but we have a great time!

David Duggins

Hi all -- I am Jason Dew and I'm a mac addict.  I became a convert (from Linux) after realizing that Mac OS X had Terminal.app (I'm a command line junkie too) and that I didn't need to fiddle with X and/or compiz/fusion daily to have a *nix environment that looked good and was stable.  I use a latest generation 17" MBP daily to do my Rails coding and I'm hoping to be able to purchase a 27" iMac very soon.  Looking forward to meeting all of you guys,

And when Jason says 'addicted to the command line' he really means it!
Welcome Jason!

That's awesome! If I remember correctly, Ian had to show me the
terminal app in OS X before I started thinking about Macs (And then
yeah, It was after a series of unfortunate events with Compiz/fusion
and a few other bleeding edge(i.e. Debian UnStable) mishaps that
ultimatly lead me to Apple. Rock that Terminal, Jason!

Yea, I spent *way* too much time playing with Gentoo and trying to keep all the latest cool stuff going. Too much of a time sink ;)

Its funny to me that Apple gets branded as non-corporate when its really allowed me to cut past all of the crap and just get to work.

I was always the same way.  Gentoo always got me in trouble.   I would tweak it 'til it crashed then pick up all the pieces and start all over again.  I was mainly a Debian guy.  I also love how the Mac lets me get done the stuff that I need to do. Everything just works and yet at the same time, I can do all the stuff I used to do in the terminal.  The only thing that I really miss is the ability to load multiple full screen terminal instances with ctl-alt 1-9 (with X being 7, I think) That would be coolness to me.
