Top of the Morning to ya folks! I hope your weekend is off to an
amazing start.

I have a question for you -

As a Web Development major, what possible benefit(s) can be derived
from my taking a highly intense course in C++ ?

Do enlighten me please.

I would say because you should know how to program. If you go front-end, you'll want to know javascript and if you go back-end, then you'll need to know ruby/python/php/etc. So either way you need to understand the basic programming concepts, because you'll find the same ones in most languages.

Jason is 110% correct.  You need to learn one upfront.  It's like knowing another human language.  If you speak a second language, you find it easier to learn a third, a forth, and so on.  Additionally, a lot of modern programming languages are derived  from c++.  Java is based on c++, and C# is basically a derivative of Java.  Also, if you would ever want to do iPhone development, Objective-C is considered a "superset" of c++.  Even if you don't want to master it and do application development, it will give you a great launching pad for learning more web related languages.

Now obviously, if you have choices as to the language that you learn, python or java might be better, since they both are used for web development...but seriously, learning c++ you can't go wrong.

I agree with both. I want to add one comment. Mobile web app development is the future (actually, it's starting now).

Thank you so much Jason, David, and Michael for your input!

I did not know the programming languages were so intertwined with C++.
Nor did I know that Objective-C was linked with C++ or mobile web apps.

Mobile Web Apps have caught my eye over the past few weeks and I wondered how they
fit in with the programming languages.

Glad to know the class isn't in total left field.
