Hello larger CGW list,
Many things happening around CGW these days.  One thing is we have officially received our MO state not for profit corporation status!
The next step is to apply for federal not for profit status. This step is a little harder.  I wanted to ask here if there was anyone who has been watching CGW, but might not have been involved yet, that has some experience in going through the steps to apply for federal not-for-profit status?  Would you be willing to be a resource for us to ask questions or possibly get together with a few of us to help get the process started?
If you would be interested in helping us in this project you can respond here, or send a note to me (dan...@gmail.com) or David Vogler (acid.d...@gmail.com

Thanks all, and I hope everyone has at least one fun hacking/making project going on in there life...  (how ever you define hacking or making for yourself)

"There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own. Nobody. You built a factory   out there - good for you.

But I want to be clear. You moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for. You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate. You were safe in your factory because of the police forces and the fire forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn't have to worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory...

Now look. You built a factory and it turned into something terrific or a great idea - God bless! Keep a big hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is you take a hunk of that and you pay forward for the next kid who comes along."

Hey, this is Brant from Milwaukee Makerspace.  In late 2014/early 2015 we mailed our non-profit application to the IRS and by April 2015 we had received our confirmation.  There was some back and forth with them; we had to revise our Articles of Incorporation on file with the State and also resend some forms more than once.  From talking to others, it sounds like we were pretty lucky it only took 5-6 months.  Let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to help any way I can.
