Since it's Valentine's Day I won't be there.  I imagine there are some others who might be in that situation as well.  Can we request that no major votes be taken until next week?  If that's a problem, then can you at least send out an email prior to the meeting tonight detailing the proposed changes to the bylaws / officers so those of us who can't attend can at least put in our .02 via email/Google Group?

Yeah, no worries on the voting. I figured that the bylaws would take at least a week to get finalized no matter what anyway. We'll talk tonight and send out proposed changes, then hopefully vote next week. Same on the officers.

Sorry I won't be able to come tonight.
Also this meeting never went out on MeetUp, so I am not sure everyone
knows about it.
Anyway, I will try to make it next week..

"There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own. Nobody. You
built a factory out there - good for you.

But I want to be clear. You moved your goods to market on the roads
the rest of us paid for. You hired workers the rest of us paid to
educate. You were safe in your factory because of the police forces
and the fire forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn't have to
worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your
factory...

Now look. You built a factory and it turned into something terrific or
a great idea - God bless! Keep a big hunk of it. But part of the
underlying social contract is you take a hunk of that and you pay
forward for the next kid who comes along."

Apparently, it's a "suggested" meetup. Son of a bitch.

I "suggest" that we still hold the meeting as planned. What's not romantic about a hackerspace? We've even got beer and a wall mounted bottle opener. That's classy!

No reason for people not to meetup there.
For future, Zach you and or Mathew should be leaders on Meetup so if
you set a meeting time, you can force it out to the group.
Sorry, i think only me and Scott and Brad saw the suggested meeting.
When Brad said it was Valentines day and maybe we should not have it,
I didn't hear any more about it so I thought it was off.
To avoid this happening again I made Mathew a co-organizer.
Zach are you on Meetup? I did not see your name.

All is good. Have fun without us tonight!

I won't be there tonight. It would be nice if votes could happen on one meeting per month. Barring that, maybe they could be done by email?

I can see doing large vote meetings (like bylaw changes) only once per month, but we need to handle business more often than that if we're going to get anything done. That's part of what I want to change the bylaws for, to codify what requires a vote of the general membership and what the officership can do to keep things running. Right now, I really have no idea.

A careful reading of the bylaws reveals that yes, we could vote by email. I don't plan on changing that, but perhaps we could do online votes even. We are a group of nerds.

I'm also out because of VD (Valentines Day, not the other one)  but around the house.  If there's a meeting in the space, how hard is it to set up a hangout?

You are just exactly right. It is important to have someone with executive authority. Votes are for big stuff. Frankly I trust you... Tell us what to do, man!

I plan to vote exclusively by hologram, so the sooner we can make that happen the better.

Or at least let's include a clause on holographic voting in the bylaws because it would be funny to have. And maybe save us some trouble a few decades down the road.
